“You have to be smarter than that.”
Molten gold eyes cut over to him for a moment, arms crossed over her chest defensively. Emily knows, logically, that he’s right. If she’d been smarter she might’ve been able to stop the coup, she might’ve been able to save Alexi and all those who were loyal to her who’d died. But, she can’t help but think of Aramis, trapped all alone in his rotting estate till he too rotted away. Neither of them are good options, but in some horrid way, she’s glad she could save Meghan and Aramis in her quest to avenge Alexi.
“You act as if I’m not aware of that fact.” Words are terse as they roll off her tongue, slim fingers reaching down to wrap about the hilt of her sword. “I’m more aware than most that I need to be smarter.” For a single moment, she wants to question him, wants to ask if he knew all this was going to happen. And if he did, why did he let it.
