If you could change one thing about rp on tumblr, what would it be? Why?
What’s one thing others seem to hate that doesn’t bother you?
JUST ONE THING? I have at least three immediately to hand, but the largest and most irksome that I have seen in THIS latest excursion of mine into the tumblr rpc, is how FUCKING PURITAN the kids have gotten.
I've been here, on and off, since 2012. I've lived through trends and things that would make some here grow grey hair and draw ass up to elbows.
From W.incest (understandably uncomfortable and not my cuppa either) to legitimately toxic Sh.eriarty (ahh guilty pleasure ship); to it being common to, under a read more, write visceral torment or mad science experimentation in graphic, gore-porny detail (I'm "guilty" of this last one myself).
So like, this whole fandom sanitisation is jarring to me. 'Creator/creation (think Pygmalion) is awful and gross and equivalent to parent/child-', && 'if you write (insert villain/anyone morally off-kilter) that obviously means you sympathise with them and are objectively an awful person' which- these two are WILD takes, let me tell you.
We have gotten to a point where I've even seen some blogs say 'porn isn't for the dash' (like, as in policing others) which, to each their own, and your comfort is paramount, but do not police those you write with.
I've seen takes about how writing conflict and it's resolution, or unhealthy ships (platonic or otherwise) is toxic and encourages the normalisation of abuse. Which, again, is a wild take and makes me mourn the loss of media literacy.
Fuck I'm bitter and rambly- but the WHY of why I want this to change, is because all of these ideas, whether they have merit or not, only serve to turn writers against each other. It encourages inter-platform abuses- judgements that are not theirs to make. It has birthed a resurgence, and new form of cyber-bullying under the guise of 'being the morally better person'.
Hyper political correctness comes to me to die, fictionally speaking. I will piss on it like a belligerent german shepherd.
FOR SOME REASON, some folks hate unformatted/non-aesthetic replies. I give absolutely no shits. What matters to ME personally is my fellow writer's creativity and readability, and if our muses have chemistry. I prefer my friends to be comfortable; never do I expect anyone to bend over backwards to do anything they can't/don't want to bother with!
You don't do small text? Excellent!
No colour emphasis? Amazing, I love you~.
No icons? Paint me a portrait with the watercolour of your imagination and let me get lost in the woven patchwork of your creativity.
You colour the very stars with your imagination in ways that would make Creation itself smile. Take pride in it, and don't give in to pressure to conform.
