Another mobile headcanon because reasons! A big part of Ryuuko's character is that she hates feeling weak and powerless and will do a lot of things to stop that. Another, is that she hates feeling like she could have done something. Whether it's protecting her loved ones or keeping a stranger out of danger, if asked to help it's rare that she'll turn someone down. A huge blow to that was her inability to protect Senketsu time and again. Always having to be the one saved by him or others when he was in the most danger. It's partially why his death hit her so hard. She failed to protect him. Again. But something that I haven't touched on before was that she also wanted to protect Nui. Harime Nui was a harsh and unforgiving opponent, manipulative at best and often treated people like her playthings. Harime Nui was the reason that Ryuuko lost her father (though he'd been emotionally lost to her for a long time, suddenly not having the option to confront him on it really tore at her. She wanted it to work out. He was her dad. She still loved him.) And she was part of the reason Ryuuko's life spiraled into the wild ride at Hounouji. But after seeing how Ragyou spoke of and treated the pink demon she felt a pang of pity. Even though Ryuuko's childhood wasn't exactly ideal, she'd at least, sporadically, had friends and people she could rely on. This girl had only ever had Ragyou. Shitty, emotionally abusive, physically assertive, boundary ignoring Ragyou. After realizing how shitty it must have been to only have that woman in your life (even Satsuki has Iori and Soroi) Ryuuko felt like the other girl deserved a second chance. A chance to see that being loved shouldn't tie into your success in battle or recon missions. That having friends can be a good thing and family should love you because of who you are, not what you do. But before she could even try Ragyou destroyed the girl and any chance she had at maybe saving her was gone. I know I went kind of on a tangent here but tldr: Ryuuko will protect you if you ask and being able to keep people safe is part of who she is. As a rude, empathetic, stupidly sweet person.
