WELCOME TO NOVA TALK
you guys know how this goes, i analyze some of the stuff i had see so far about the lore revealed, i do my chaos of personal interpretations/where they took inspiration for this, and we completly ignore canon incoherencies in hope to enjoy this on our own. Ready?
let start!
SO, The Wrongside Outimals, a supposed new ''brand'' revealed both in some leaks, trailers, the ARG in the official server, and most recently the trailer of the future song made by CG5. Look like pretty popular little guys mm?
let me 100% honest, we are getting another nightmare critters situation: this little guys are made based on the fame of the critters and are been given this much attention just due that, but are going to be just mini enemies like the nightmares.
im not talking about them in the game to be honest, because while im not considering it a disaster so far, i know based on my personal liking that it going to take them A LOT to actually give me what i want with all the stuff they are saying that is going to be there (god i need to analyze lilly and the secret red toy aaaaaaaaaaa)
IM ACTUALLY MORE INTERESED in how this creatures were proposed as toys/brand, see
so, we dont need to been genius to know that ''bad brand alignment'' mean that they were part of the critters brand, no way to denied this, they are literally the critters turned upside out.
from a manufacter perspective, this new idea is pretty easy to explain: they wanted to recycle the big number of critters plushies they had laying around, maybe this toys had the ability of turn upside out and go back to normal, like those reversibles toys that are a thing in our world.
now you would ask ''but those are cute in both forms, how would had they excuse the horrific shape they have in the upside out form?'' Easy! actually, do you guys forget another tendency that is SO COMMON in cartoons?
Zombies episodes
There is always at least 1 EPISODE in each cartoon with zombies, either a halloween special, a random scary episode, or a ''who this passed the check ups from the studio?'' situation, but is had been a tell as old as time that zombies are a pretty popular concept in cartoons when ya want a scary thrope
now, in term of how would had they looked in the cartoon? im pretty sure that were stuff went wrong, because i tried to translate the concept to my cartoon style and
shit is scary!
i can only imagine the revisions of the concept arts been something like this
the own LEITH PIERRE, DUDE THAT BETRAYED SAWYER AND MAKE HIM A LIVING MACHINE WITH BODY PIECES ALL AROUND THE FACTORY, SAY NO TO THIS. So you know there was no way to make the concept actrattive for the audience, not even as a ''hahaha this shit is scary, pretty sure the young adults that grew with the critters would love this'' way, there was just no way to put that in the shops.
But that also make me think: why would this concept even exist, apart from recycling plushies material?
If you allow me to give a idea (that i may continue in a future comic), i think it would had been amazing that they were part of the introduction of the nightmares
Think it like this: the nightmares theme is all about been cool and darks and chaotic and nothing of the soft concept the critters are, they are portrayed as angsty and moody preteens with more defects that good qualities, BUUT that would also mean they are more hard skinned that the og critters
and ya know that would had give it for a cool episode of the zombie chaos been saved by them
make the nightmares save the day would had been a amazing way to introduce their characters as more that just background bullies, but as actually good supporting characters that people should consider get 33523435345 plushies of them! And what best way to sell both the nightmares and the outnimals that to put them in the same special and this way encourage the kids to get the ugly ones as the ''monsters'' that the nightmares need to fight during their playtime?
Not a bad marketing to be honest, and is actually a kind of idea i follow with my ambrosia critters in the fact that they were a special kind of toys with a special episode that promoted them. But i can definitly see why this concept was seeing by Leith as a ''what the fuck is this shit?'', dude may be crazy with some stuff, but he knew this was not going to put play.co in the glory again!.
so, my conclusion for this concept? it really showed that Play.co was running out of ideas and had TOO MUCH EXTRA PLUSHIES laying around, and they didn't knew what to do with them apart from filling them with kids and make living toys with them, but those mini toys weren't going to give them money, they needed to keep selling normal toys!
But you can see that in this concept a little of the bad stuff inside the factory could be see leaking in, so far we had see that the toys had always been presented as child friendly and nice concepts that only got destroyed INSIDE the factory due the experiments, but this one is the first one that was disgusting from the head on, showing how the ''friendly'' facade was starting to slip out, and the creative team inside Play.co was becoming corrupted with the stuff happening inside, if the hour of joy didn't happened, im pretty sure play.co would had end up falling in the toy market sooner or later due starting to run out of ideas compared to their glory days.
that would be all for now! would love to see what ya guys think of this
