@outfoxxd, contd. from here
Words are scarce from Akutagawa, and unlike most, Jono cannot see the cutting stare of the hellhound’s pitch-black eyes — though even if they could, it would be unlikely to affect the Hunting Dog. Even so, the minutest workings of his body would tell them enough about his tension, springloaded to release at the slightest sign.
“How thoughtful of you to think of it that way. But intruders on our territory will be stamped out by us.” His voice was a low growl, the rasp of his lungs pronounced through his manner of speech.
“...Of which you are currently one.”
Still, as much threat and contained aggression he poured into the words, Akutagawa was aware of the lack of wisdom in carelessly confronting someone like Jono. He had said as much at the start.
Therefore, he would not recklessly attack the other simply for existing in this space. Equally however, he would not allow Jono to go where he wished freely as if he belonged here. Negotiation — it was far from Akutagawa’s strong point. But there were several things to consider here. He allowed a pause before continuing.
“If, as you say, there is vermin hiding here... it would be convenient to have you track them down.” The phrasing was chosen for two purposes; casting doubt on the claim which the hellhound had no reason to believe so easily, and making it clear who ruled here.
“Not, however, unsupervised.”
