"New is scary", now that's how I would describe many tendencies for TV broadcasters (CN seems to the epitome of that, even though Adventure Time does break the mold in some cases). The problem I see is that most broadcasters/producers and such only see one and only one audience for their shows: boys aged 9-12. They don't really see a market for girls in that age range (and even then, it caters to a rather narrow avenue that only seems to be obsessed with fashion and beauty, which should tell you what TV broadcasters and society thinks what girls should/are like), even less than the fact that their audience may include adults, both male and female that enjoy their show. The result can be downright demeaning (see the Avatar the Last Airbender toys, and how only now with Korra did they actually market to the larger audience, by making t-shirts for Hot Topic). The HUB is the only network that I have seen that really seems to cater to both sides of their fandom surrounding My Little Pony, in that they do have some great stories for their show, they get new seasons, and they market to both children and adults via toys and clothing. Now if some other networks would actually get that in mind...
