Last weekend, we launched Eco Boards in Tampines, first in Singapore! This is part of our efforts to make Tampines Singapore’s first Eco-Town by 2025. We are installing Eco Boards at the lift lobby of 10 HDB blocks* in Tampines. The Eco Boards provide residents with real-time updates on their blocks’ electricity and water consumption. With more information, this will help shape consumption behaviour and reduce carbon emissions. Introducing five new friends to Tampines: Hornbill, hTetro, Emu, Dragonfly & Falcon! Tampines Town Council is working with SUTD (Singapore University of Technology & Design) to test these 5 robots at the Tampines Round Market & Food Centre. They will help to keep the estate clean, together with our cleaners. An appreciative resident emailed me to compliment a friendly and hardworking cleaner. Indeed, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Tampines Town Council has taken more precautionary measures to enhance the cleanliness of our public spaces. We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting all frequent touch points by residents. These include lift buttons, handrails, playgrounds & fitness corners and void deck seating areas. We are holding a Consensus Gathering session for Tampines residents of Sunplaza, Zone 3–5 this Saturday (26 Jan) 9.30am-12.30pm at the Pavilion of Block 450D Tampines St 42. This is the final leg of the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP), and it is important that residents understand the plans that have been proposed for their estate and vote to make it a reality. There have always been questions from residents asking if one can pluck the mangoes growing in Tampines. The answer is actually “No”. This is because public may not do so properly and could end up damaging the trees or injuring themselves. We have seen some throwing rocks or use bamboo poles to dislodge the fruit, which can tear the tree’s bark and expose it to viruses. We have noticed quite a number of mango trees bearing fruit now. We will have our contractors to harvest them and the town council will distribute them to residents to spread the joy.
