Had an inspiring small group session last night. I’m so thankful for a discipler who calls out things for what they are and yet reminds us that we shouldn’t allow falling or making a mistake to derail us but to repent and stand back up. The passage that struck me was “let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of a salvation as a helmet (verse 8).” As I pictured it in my mind, I did a double take, ‘wait a minute! Breastplate, helmet - those are all for protection. Why is there no mention of sword or spear?’ Then I realized that God only expects us to put on the shield He has provided for us because He is our Defender and Deliverer. The attack is best left to Him. The problem is when we act like the results are up to us and expect to be in control of circumstances and people’s reactions. But when we bask in the shield He has provided for us, we will be protected from the seemingly unending judgment and vicious attacks from the outside so we may “encourage one another and build each other up (verse 11).” #faithandloveasbreastplate #encourageoneanother #ourDeliverer https://www.instagram.com/p/CV9bDb5hb46/?utm_medium=tumblr
