Local Artist Spotlight: Joe Juarez

Joe Juarez came bursting onto the scene over 25 years ago playing various venues across the country until landing a residency at the Icon, Ottawa’s premier ‘Big City’ gay and straight nightclub. From there, he also played a weekly Saturday night event at Atomic Nightclub, called Escape. Joe was able to play alongside some of the biggest DJs in the world, such as Eric Morillo, David Morales Daft Punk and long time Atomic resident Max Graham.
Along the way, Joe played at some of the hottest venues around the world including Miami’s White Party event and Montreal’s Stereo Nightclub. After Atomic Nightclub, Joe Juarez continued playing at Icon where his vision brought the now legendary Friday night event, Velvet. For 5 years, Velvet reigned supreme hosting the nation’s top local talent and some high caliber acts like John “00” Fleming.
In 2003, Joe began working on a new project in the form of Surface Nightclub and After Hours where they were the first to co present Chus and Ceballos in North America. His passion didn’t stop there though, since then Joe has had the opportunity to work on many great projects from Pride Ottawa to Cirque du Soleil. Nowadays Joe Juarez will play pop up shows at various venues in Ottawa and holds a monthly residency at the legendary Mercury lounge in Ottawa.
We asked Joe what he loved about the music community, he said:
“There is nothing more special than sharing the things you love with others, and for me music makes that happen on an instantaneous level. "Everyone Together - All For The Party" Dancing to the beat of one drum, unified and sharing the same moment. It is very spiritual for me to share these feelings with a room full of friends, loved ones and fans of the music.”
