The little post-it note Jack leaves for the reader was such a small detail, but I added it very intentionally because I wanted it to be one of those quiet things that says a lot about who he is as a character.

If Jack had been someone younger, maybe closer to the reader’s age, he probably would’ve just texted her to let her know he called out for her. He would assume she’d wake up, check her phone and see it immediately.

But Jack is an ~ old man ™

He is literally the kind of person who leaves post-it notes on the kitchen counter when he needs to communicate something but can’t say it in person.

He makes grocery lists on one of those little magnetic notepads attached to the fridge instead of using his notes app.

He struggled transitioning from cash to contactless payment.

He calls restaurants directly to place an order instead of using delivery apps.
