tomoe spent hundredsĀ of years with mikage as his familiar and the two developed an extremelyĀ close bond. to tomoe, mikage was all he had leftĀ in a world that had turned its back on him. a world where heād forgottenĀ love and lostĀ his best friend.
mikage is the reason tomoe remained alive for so much longer than he should have. and itās also the reason why his betrayalĀ hurt so much. for twenty years, tomoe was alone.Ā something mikage had promise he would neverĀ be.
it placed a tearĀ in their relationship that tomoe wasnāt so easy to forgive and forget. however, mikage means too muchĀ to him to sacrifice everything for what (in his mind) is such a short period of time. however,Ā it did leave him with abandonment issues (as seen in the beginning of kamisama).
but all in all, mikage is the most important person in tomoeās life.Ā even more so than nanami. because while nanami means so muchĀ to him, mikage has been a constantĀ source of comfort and support and is someone tomoe can really be freeĀ with himself around. / ( answered for @otomegami )

nya.Ā iām going to answer this as a follow upĀ to my previous headcanon.
like i had said, akura ou was familyĀ to tomoeāāāāa best friend and the only companionship he felt he needed in the world. not to say that they didnāt disagreeĀ on many thingsāāātomoe was never as partial to senseless violenceĀ as akura ou wasāāāābut their diverging interestsĀ never disrupted their friendship.
tomoe was the only one who could ever stand up to akura ou, berate him for mistakes, etc. and vise versa. the two were practically inseperable, excepting some of akura ouās military ventures into the human realm. tomoe never took as much interest in humans as akura ou did, though he didĀ enjoy the company of human women.
the two would shareĀ their spoilsāāāin nearly every sense of the meaning. women, treasure, gloryā¦though not all of it made it to the end.Ā
even afterĀ the death of yukiji and tomoe imprisoning akura ouās body in flames, he never truly hatedĀ the other. a lot of his anger was a frontĀ to distance himself from his pastāāāāand make himself feel betterĀ about the position he was in now. tomoe was fullyĀ aware that his situation was unique, though he wishedĀ many times that he could once again share a drink with his closest friend.
