Some people have pointed our that our last post is actually a perfect teaching moment.  We completely agree and we love every opportunity to teach someone new about the library!  But we do find it saddening to see how many students make it to the college (or even post-grad) level without basic information literacy skills.  It does make us what to get up on a soapbox about the importance of school librarians!

Hello, I'm an undergrad student considering going to grad school to become a librarian. Any suggestions? If I'm not super organized is it possible for me to succeed?
Dear Anon, Thanks for your question. We are always excited to hear about those interesting in joining our profession. We are actually two archivists who also work as librarians. As to suggestions, go for it! What kind of librarian do you want to be? Academic? Public? Youth? Outreach? There are tons of different kinds of librarians. We would recommend volunteering or working part time in a library setting where you might be interested in working in the future. This will give you a taste of what this type of librarianship entails.  With regards to being organized, we have come to realize that there are several kinds of organization. There is being organized in your work life, getting projects done, working with other staff members, etc. There is being organized and neat at work with regards to your work space. If this is your problem, not to fear. Then there is also being organized in your private life but that is another matter entirely.  We hope this is helpful and we are really excited that you are considering the library profession.
