This interaction between Hyunsung and Dokja just feels off.
In the novel, Dokja reinforces the idea that Hyunsung is an important character in TWSA.
Interestingly, Hyunsung says:
Even if I had lived, I wouldnāt have been able to live as a person. [ā¦] I am ashamed.
Keep that in mind. Weāll come back to that.
Hereās what it says in the webtoon:
One thing to point out is the lack of Dokja saying heās an important character in TWSA. He says that Hyunsung is a tanker, but leaves out the part about how heās an important figure. Back in Episode 3, he was just called a supporting character.
But the main thing I wanted to point out, and the point of this discrepancy, is what he says.
Even if we had survived through that method, we wouldnāt deserve to live as humans.
Well, for one, the pronouns. In the novel, Hyunsung says I. In the webtoon, he says we.
N!Hyunsung is referring solely to himself. He wouldnāt be able to live with himself. He is ashamed.
But W!Hyunsung is referring to the other 3 survivors (not including Dokja). They wouldnāt deserve to live. Which is a crazy line coming from him.
Hyunsung is a soldier and from the looks of it, he lives being a soldier. I donāt know much about Korean patriotism, but it just seems strange to me that he would imply that no one who wouldāve killed another human being deserves to live. He seems like the type of person that believes the good in people. But I guess he also has his limits.
Itās just that when he says I in the novel, it feels so much more personal. Itās more obvious that itās not āoh I wouldnāt be able to live with myself cause I killed someone.ā Itās him taking that guilt onto himself and never being able to forgive himself. Heās ashamed, a line they leave out in the webtoon.
Thatās some good quality character development and they cut it out (ļæ£ćļæ£)
