Severance Onion headlines, part 4
-- Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 --
Kier Eagan be like âNo guys that wasnât me you saw jacking off in the woods, it was my evil twin brotherâ
I just finished the book Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell. Itâs about the language that cults will use to essentially brain wash their members (not in the typical brainwash way that you think about). Itâs âthe technical terms, the redefined words, the shorthand, the clichĂŠs, the euphemisms, logical distortions, and so on set members apart from and above their pedestrian neighbors, families, and coworkers". Montell does not necessarily view "cultish" â the "language" she identifies as the set of linguistic tricks cult leaders use to coerce and manipulate members â negatively, but she believes that people should at least be able to recognize it.â
Anyways fucked me up! In the past two days Iâm seeing it everywhere, in marketing, in the slogans in my job, in popular work out groups, cliche phrases we all sayâŚâŚ and then i watched the latest episode of severance! I donât think Iâll watch this show, and more specifically Mr Milchick and other unsevered employees the same.
In this last episode i wanna talk about that acronym ORTBO that they introduced because itâs the most obvious tactic that they used.
âThought terminating clichĂŠs squash independent thinkingâ -Amanda montell

I hate the drowning scene at the ORTBO I feel so sick thinking of Hellyna going through it. Helly was so confused (first time outside, Irving is drowning her, she had just discovered she's an Eagan) but also Helena's last moments as Helly (the closest thing she's had to freedom) are getting waterboarded by the one person she thought could fill the void of paternal love she craves, because he had already done it with the other half of herself. Nobody comes to help her until she turns into Helly, Milchick hesitates even after she has given him a direct order in between getting drowned and she probably came back to being punished for this the same way Cobel used to punish Mark every time something went wrong in S1. And then she's told she has to go back to MDR.
probably wonât finish this cause I canât fix it for the life of me đ was fun to do though!!!!! helly(na) my loove đđđŤđˇ
Back into the Severance wormhole post Emmys and like. How the fuck did they get the Innies to that forest. I don't know if that's ever actually addressed in the show, but how the actual fuck did they get the gang there.
I remember they had to get the outies consent to get them to the ORTBO, but it's not like they woke up in the office and then brought to the forest. They woke up already there. Did Dylan, Irving and Mark travel together? Did each arrive solo? And how did they prevent them from seeing one another, or at least the boiz from Helena? And when they actually got to the forest mountain thing, were they just stranded in the freezing cold until Lumon were actually able to set everyone in place?
I'm thinking that Mark was just out there standing in the snow and was like "thisisforGemmathisisforGemmathisis-" because it was FREEZING. Irving was probably not cold at all because of some nazy training or shit. Dylan was drafting his resignation in his head, knowing full well he isn't actually going to do it. And Helena was chill as fuck, no pun intended; Jame is the kind of father that would leave his daughter out in the woods in the middle of the night to see if she'll make her way home as survival of the fittest type shit.
