I was watching a blog I follow the person in course of her week had gone to see the 2nd Dune movie. Was explaining her feelings between the two. That to the first to one her and her boyfriend had felt that cinematic masterpiece and that every frame of it had such symbolism. And it would be seen as one of greatest film.
This where I started to laugh my ass off...I couldn't help myself! I don't know if this going be a generational thing with new Dune movies or what. See I'm GenX, you know the generation who got the original Dune movie with Patrick Stewart and Sting in it, director by David Lynch. Which not being a huge fan of Dune in general have to say is the superior version. And if I'm not mistaken is a cult classic.
The genZ version well first and most importantly is boring as watching paint dry. It took me a total of 3 times to get through the new Dune because I kept falling asleep. On my 2nd try I started watching it in afternoon so I thought I'd stay awake... nope that movie put out then too. The only way got through the thing was I finished as soon I woke up one morning. Mostly because I was fucking annoyed!
I'll agree it looks great but outside that compared to original, it has issues it lags too long through out, some of casting choices were well badly chosen not just one. The remake which it is, lacks any real depth of feelings to it. It's been sterilized for 21st century audience. Nothing about the remake will made me well feel... anything.
Where the original is dripping with atmospheric anxiety. It's dark, uncomfortable, slightly creepy, gross at times, scary, full of magic, space monsters, spice/drugs, worms that are actually fucking frightening.
The remake took all of David Lynch interesting greatest and dumped bleach all over until shined all pretty, took all the personality with it.
The dialogue...omg the dialogue, the number one thing that put me to sleep was just horrible. I mean it was a killer in the original too but at least with everything else going in the original I can get through it. But the new one it was as dry as Arrakis!
Ok I'm going to say it and everyone can throw rocks at me I don't care. Timothée Chalamet was not the right casting choice to play Paul Atreides. Not Unless he in his character changes a lot in the what movie 2 and 3 for who his to become. I don't buy him pulling off!
I think a big issue now with a lot of remakes are just being sterilized for a new audience. We wouldn't of seen the original Dune now...which is really sad. Because the three new Dune movies we're going to get now together will never be as good as the original Dune made in 1984.
