How I Organize my Docs while Writing
When writing a fic, you can have an idea that pops in or a disclaimer you don't want to forget, but how do you organize all that? I have written many fics and I will tell you how I keep track of everything while writing.
The first thing I do when opening a new doc for a fic is write 'Title' on top and then two enters. I will later fill in my title and not bother with it until I'm done. I will also write a summery at the top, but I do that at the end, so I won't put the extra enters there just quite yet.
The second thing I do is start writing. I usually have an idea in my head and for me it works best to just go for it. Most of the time I stick to my plan sometimes, I don't. (I have a note on my phone with all my ideas, so I won't forget if my brain does anything other than the original idea.)
But then I get an idea that's not relevant to the scene I'm currently writing but will be relevant later, or a detail I want to remember, or a killer line I want to use somewhere.
What to do?
Well, a few enters don't hurt. So, just creat a big enough blank space that it doesn't bother you and quickly type it out before going back to your scene. This way you don't loose your flow, nor your idea. (I've had many times that I just typed out another scene first and pasted it a while later.)
But what about authors notes? I usually write mine as I write the fic, whenever I want to comment on what I'm writing. (So, if you've ever seen my author's notes, they're in order of how it's written.) I write those under my little ideas with two of these '~' and an 'A/N:' to keep them separate.
In the end my doc looks a bit like this:
Title
[blank space]
summery if i already have one
[blank space]
fic
[as many blank spaces as necessary]
little notes for me
[i usually do three blank spaces]
~~
A/N:
the notes I wanna put on my fic for everyone to see.
