You may have heard that on Monday, a ~ bipartisan ~ (π!!!) vote in the Virginia legislature made it the 38th state to ratify the #EqualRightsAmendment. This is the minimum number of states needed to add the amendment to the constitution! Unfortunately, the deadline for 38 states to ratify passed...in 1972. But there is no time limit on a quest for equality! It will likely now be decided in the courts, so stay tuned feminists and friends! Womxn deserve equal protection, and recognition, under the law. We deserve access to the most powerful tools in the land for fighting discrimination. That access and protection would be granted by this amendment. To learn more we recommend following @eracoalition, and checking out the new podcast #OrdinaryEquality from @equalitynoworg. β β β β β β β β β We'll also share a video of #ERACoalition co-founder Carol Jenkins giving us the low-down on the proposed amendment on our Facebook. β β β β β β β β β One of the interesting things we learned from the podcast, for example, is the impact native cultures had on white womxn fighting for suffrage: the Seneca Falls convention took their cues from a nearby native village where native womxn had certain rights guaranteed. β β β β β β β β β Swipe for the text of the #ERA. β β β β β β β β β Ps. The ERA is about equality. Full stop. This includes trans folx and non-binary individuals!!!! β β β β β β β β β Pps. Our fair state, Louisiana, has not ratified the #ERA π¨. β β β β β β β β β Images 1 + 3 from @eracoalition.
