#Repost from the Awesome....@richardobarry —— There is Something Profoundly Obscene About a Whale Dying in a Stadium (that sentence was worth repeating) The show finally ended for Lolita today. I remember the day the show stopped for orca Hugo too. It wasn’t the Seaquarium owners who stopped the “Hugo the Killer Whale” show—death did that. Here’s a photo of my friend Hugo being lifted out of his tiny concrete stadium tank and lowered by crane into the dump truck. No funeral or anything like that, just another dump and run. And the show finally ended for Lolita too. Seaquarium didn’t stop the Lolita show for ethical reasons, or retirement, or for any other reason. The new owners of Seaquarium, The Dolphin Company didn’t stop the Lolita show either. The local government authorities had to step in and stop the Lolita show. So now what? I’m hoping Lolita will be turned over to Orca Network. I believe they have the best retirement plan for Lolita. And the Orca Network folks are honest too, not money grubbers, that’s important. They want to build a seaside sanctuary in Lolita’s original home-range. Tens of millions of dollars won’t have to be raised from the general public if Orca Network does it. No six figure salaries necessary. No SeaWorld trainers needed. So, let’s do it. Let’s take Lolita home to her mom, “Ocean Sun” (L25) is her name. Ocean Sun is still there waiting. So what are WE waiting for? Let’s do the this! #dolphinproject #emptythetanks #orcanetwork https://www.instagram.com/p/CbHuJnQu6Y1/?utm_medium=tumblr
