Following the demise of the Bayonne to Cranford Scoot, NJDOT found itself with some excess RDC cars at the very same time that it was short of power and trainsets on its former Erie diesel lines. Four RDCs briefly became the last train down in the morning and the first train up in the evening on the Pascack Valley Line. On Christmas Eve, that first set ran as a midday extra in a fog so thick that this photo doesn't give you a real understanding of how hard it was to see. Oradell, NJ December 24, 1979
