Back to the daughters of M. Gillenormand. They are 10 years apart in age, "very different...in character as well as in countenance...as far from being sisters as possible" (605). The younger was cheerful and loved: she resembled "everything bright" (606). "In her dreams since childhood [she saw herself] engaged to a dim heroic figure" (606). On the other hand, the elder wanted to marry a "munitions maker" (606), rich but stupid and nothing special. "Both had wings, one like an angel, the other like a goose" (606). How flattering. "No ambition is fully realized, here below at least. No paradise comes to earth in our day. The younger one half married the man of her dreams, but she was dead. The elder was not married" (606). Hugo is not an optimist, to say the least. As if you can't live and fulfill your dreams at the same time. The elder sister is a prude. Freakishly prudish. Not to be confused with prunish, although she might be wrinkly like one. She is bigoted, but never mean. She was perpetually sad. The Gillenormand household was like the Bishop's: an old man living with an old maid with limited staff. The old maid oversees the run of the house. There is also a little boy, and he will become important.

So I was on the verge of a meltdown this past weekend because I didn't know what was going on or how to deal with the situation that I was in. I guess I was just really confused and hurt/disappointed. Then I realized that there was nothing I could do about it and I wasn't going to let it ruin my weekend. So I didn't, and ended up having a pretty amazing weekend. Then came back reality, or actually, he didn't come back. I had to go out and find him and realized exactly why he wasn't communicating. He didn't care anymore. So I have a feeling as of late tonight or early tomorrow I'm gonna be moving on. Emotions? Well, they're mixed because I don't know how you can be upset about something you never really had to begin with. I'm just pissed that it was a complete waste of time. If you're gonna commit, then commit, don't freaking lead me on and then ditch me. Either way, I know I'm better off without you. I see the life I could be living instead of hanging around waiting for you to be there.
The good though, is great. Thanksgiving is the day after tomorrow, I have a full schedule at work, and I just found out I got an A on my midterm in math after failing the last one. You have no idea how ecstatic I am about that. I actually have a chance to pull my grade up now. Its nothing short of a miracle and it definitely proves one thing: I can write. Thank God I have the one math teacher who wanted us to write a research paper. Then I got a B+ on my research paper in Greek Civ, which is something I know I earned because I didn't really try but oh well I was wayyy too stressed out so I'm thankful for my B+.
Today I've got a verb quiz and chapter 3 quiz in French which I need to study for so I don't fail. Then I will get through this day with some things falling apart and some things perfectly together.
