I had read a few fic where Harry's core was sealed by Dumbledore. Although I don't know how it work or the side effects are but shouldn't there be more toll on Harry because something important inside him was being sealed? Like, I had read that the core and the soul are more or less the same. That's why making a horcrux, which divide the soul (and core if we follow that theory) is considered so foul. It cost Tom's appearance and sanity as we can see. Maybe some of his emotions. So what would it do to Harry to have his core sealed? Like isn't it the same thing? Even though Harry still have his soul whole, but he was unable to access it fully.
Some of the fics implying that the seal close most of Harry's magic, so I assume it's more than 50% was sealed.
And I have my own speculation where most of the time, the effect of the abuse from the Dursley was healed by Harry's magic. That would explain the lack of bruise (either Vernon did physical abuse or not, Dudley and his friends still hit Harry) and the energy Harry have to do most of his chore even though he hardly ate anything.
And this is what I wanted to share.
What if Dumbledore seal Harry's core without researching any further and nearly reduced Harry into a squib? Correction, Harry should have became a squib. Magically, he didn't. Maybe it was pure luck or fate didn't allow it. Or maybe there are another factor within Harry that refused to be sealed entirely. Or it was mixture of everything.
As I don't want to bash Dumbledore, he didn't do this on purpose. Oh no, he did this with a good attention but sadly resulting the opposite. The book Dumbledore read to seal a child's core was good and accurate. Too bad that the book was old, worn, and unknown to him, missed a few pages. What make it worse, the missing page was the most important part where it was explaining the ability to what extend the ritual could do. Not to mention the warning that it was competent enough to reduce a magical adult into a squib unless they are magically powerful was along with that missing page.
Should we say then it wasn't Dumbledore fault, we couldn't be so sure. After all, why use a strong ritual to seal a baby's core? Alas, maybe it was his mistake due to old age and stress from the war. Since, the knowledge of sealing a child's core was barely used, the knowledge of the wise old man was also limited. Maybe he didn't had any other options. Still, this is something he have to take responsibility in the future. And at that time, maybe this would be his downfall. And maybe, he was relieved. Was it from the fact that the wizarding world's responsibility was not for him to bear anymore or was it from the fact that their only hope was not crippled because of his mistake? We will never know.
Back to the said hope, what have the sealing ritual done to him?
What happen to him, was something that people wouldn't able to explain. Maybe even himself couldn't really understand it. But he understand one thing. He was grateful that he's still able to be alive.
As Harry Potter luck could achieve, he was able to avoid the fate becoming a squib. However, it didn't escape the effect the ritual would do to him. Harry Potter still have his core sealed entirely. His core was unable to produce any tingle of magic. Any magical people saw him would thought of him as muggle. After all, the ritual did work. So how are Harry not a squib?
That, is where the unusual happen. As it was mentioned before, maybe there was something unexplainable inside Harry refused to release the ability he possessed. And maybe there is something from outside helped Harry to do it.
In any way, since Harry couldn't produce magic from inside. Why not take it from outside?
There had been theory where magic come from nature. It was the nature itself, the energy that keep them move, alive. And that is how Harry was able to use magic.
As rich as the energy coating the nature it was hard for him to take different kind of energy to change into the energy he need. So Harry's inside work harder. It pushed the organ, member, anything to work in order to gain the magic Harry need. As result they work differently and harder than usual.
Now let's talk about the effect on Harry physically. Due to Harry's organ work harder in order to absorb magic and his core sealed entirely, Harry always had a weak body. He literally is sick everytime. Sometimes his organ even collapsed whenever Harry unconsciously used magic his body stored.
Sometimes Harry still do something magic. Like produce a small light in his hand, or make his body warm despite the cold winter outside. However, as soon as he did anything like that, Harry would immediately feel weaker than usual. Often he would cough out blood and having seizure.
It was not that long for Dursley to dump him into orphanage. Since even take Harry in and house him was a great reluctant for them, taking care and bringing him to hospital regularly is something they absolutely refuse to do.
Unfortunately for Harry, whether it was in purpose or not, Harry ended up in orphanage that have bad condition. No fund, not enough care taker, no education, the orphanage lack of many things. It seemed that either the orphanage was enclosed that no one know or it had bad reputation that no one was willing to spend their money on the orphanage. Either way, Harry was sure the cause of this were the children reside in it.
For the lack of funds, the orphanage could barely provide them any luxury. Most children share their cloth or toys, ate bland soup and some bread. If they were lucky, sometimes they could provide chicken soup.
Harry coming there was a misfortune for them. They were reluctant to spend more money on spending medicine for him. At first they thought it was for a moment. After they notice that medicine would not help him. They leave him.
As cold as this sounded to be, they just couldn't afford to waste their money for something pointless.
For the first one month, they tried to give Harry more nutritious food. Though, just after 3 days, other children immediately grew jealous and after a week, they started to steal Harry's food.
Of course, the poor sick Harry unable to prevent them. Even when the care taker stopped giving him nutritious food, other children still stole them from him. After all, food was a blessing for the poor.
When Harry tried to tell one of the care taker which of course resulting them to scold and give the children just a slap in their hand. The children immediately turn their rage on Harry.
And for the first time, Harry was beaten by other children.
After that, every time Harry tried to retaliate they would proceed to beat him. Harry had the suspicion that the care taker notice this but turned a blind eye. Although the children's hit was weak, they still produce bruises after all.
It was a surprise that Harry was still alive after all the illness and malnourishment. For this, some of the care taker was afraid of him. Harry was sure their daily check was to make sure whether he's still alive or not and the fact that after half year he's still alive and speaking despite barely ate anything was something abnormal for them.
They still act as if they were not bothered by that, at least for the younger one. They are adult after all. What kind of adult fear a sickly child?
8 month after Harry's arrival, a plague attacked their area. The area where the poor lives. And making it worse, it was winter. The plague haunted them for the whole winter.
Many deceased. Whether it was from freezing from the cold, plague, or starved. The number of children reside in the orphanage was reduced into less than half. Three of the care taker died.
Within the hard time, none of them had visited Harry. There was only a new and young care taker and a kind hearted child that pitied Harry had visited Harry and provide him a little food they could afford. And both died in late January. They were the last death.
When they remembered and went to Harry's room bringing cloth for his body as they had thought the boy had died in his bed. Into their horror, they was met with the boy staring out at the window and perfectly alive.
Maybe he was spared from the plague because of the lack of contact with other, maybe there are other that sneak food into him or maybe the boy sneak food by himself.
However, no matter what kind of idea they tried to came for the fact that the boy had survived after this three month. It was simply impossible for him to stay alive.
That was their breaking point.
They immediately tried everything to expel the demon they claimed had possessed the boy. They tried to erase the demonic power the boy had from the possession. And they failed.
They shunned him. They started to be cautious of him. They locked him in his room. They started to act as if he don't exist. They feared him.
Other children was warned to have any kind of contact with him. At the beginning, they ignored the warning and jeer at him through the window as the door was locked.
When Harry didn't react at all, they got upset and tried to throw some stone into his room. The care taker scolded them as they were breaking the orphanage property though they didn't bother to fix it. However, to their utter horror when the raining season come, the window was fixed. No sign of breaking.
For this, the care taker immediately avoided him like plague. They flipped out whenever the children talked about him and they made the area around his room as restricted area. No one are allowed to go near there except those to deliver food and water.
As much as they wanted to just leave him without any food or water, having food and water suddenly just appear in his room was more scary than walking near him room twice a day.
So it become some kind of arrangement for them. They would leave the devil alone locked in his room and the devil will do no harm to them. They tried really, really hard to ignore the fact that books and some other stuff laying somewhere in his room.
As long as nothing really mattered disappear.
They also tried really, really hard to ignore the fact that the boy is surely had managed to get out of his locked room, strolled around the town with his ridiculous weak body that should enable him to walk and slipped back into his room without anyone notice.
The constant topic talked from some elderly couple and the people in market of how sweet little boy with unruly black and a weird scar on his head had helped them didn't help either.

And I'm done with the opening I guess. This was from the time when Harry's still in orphanage. Harry will go to Hogwarts, hide his body condition, make relationship with other people and learn magic.
Harry's ability will have its own effect on literally everything magical. That will be explained later as I had already written. And how the ability worked will be explained further later. In fact, I wrote the effect first then worked out on the explanation and I did it as I write this shit.
I never really thought of what happened in the orphanage so this just sorta, write itself? So I'm sorry if it left out a lot of detail.
I don't really know what will happen in first and second year but I think I'll manage later as I try to write it, though I had planned out third year. A little. And a little in fifth year too.
Anyway, if anyone thought this is interesting and if I got like...5 likes? Maybe I'll try to write out more.
Um, if you're confused or didn't caught it. The prompt should be,uhh, like this:
"What if Harry's core was sealed and it effected him physically worse than it should be. What if Harry is sick all the time? What if Harry still managed to do all of the feat cannon!Harry had done while hiding the fact that he's practically sick 24/7? What if Harry could absorb magic around him?"
This was Sick!Harry, Independent!Harry, Powerful!Harry (probably OP at the end since I like OP Harry), Caring!Severus&Remus&Sirius fic. Oh and friendly!Goblin. Maybe I should add Harry make friend with as much as magical creature he could accidentally.
No one is bashed. They just make mistake. And no pairing. Maybe.
P.s. this is useless note. I finished my exam! Yes! Finally!
