Infantry from the 8th Royal Scots advance alongside a Churchill from the 7th Royal Tank Brigade during Operation Epsom. Operation Epsom was a British offensive intended to outflank and secure the vital city of Caen. Although the Germans were able to contain the offensive, both sides suffered heavy casualties and the British were able to maintain the strategic initiative. Over the following two weeks they continued to launch further operations and eventually secured Caen in mid-July. June 28, 1944
