My Cameroon Fulbright TEA Alumni Association comrade, Tabot Delna and I guided him to Open Dreams for exchange with the scholars. Equalizing access to educational opportunities for community impact - the field missions continue. Last Wednesday, May 25th 2022, part of Open Dreams Team in Douala, paid a visit to Government Bilingual High School Bonaberi Douala, an institution which equally hosts the highest number of Internally Displaced Persons in the Littoral Region. We talked with the students about the benefits of high academic achievement in connection with their #Dreams and the importance of making the most of their study time in high school, the subjects they will have a pass in and the grades will be key determinants of what opportunities they can successfully harness after high school. In the brief sessions in several classrooms, the students were enlightened on what Open Dreams is all about, the benefits, as well as study opportunities. Community engagement and volunteerism were also part of the talk, as key expectations of change drivers. We shared information about the upcoming Open Dreams Summer Academy, #ODSA2022, and encouraged the students who meet the eligibility conditions to apply, as their acceptance into the academy could serve as a spring board to their #dreamworld. A parent-teacher, who had developed much interest in Open Dreams caught up with us and engaged us in a deeper discussion, to learn more about #OpenDreams. What a great experience it was! Today the 18th of September 2021 is the World Cleanup Day, celebrated in over 200 Countries round the World. In Yaoundé, Cameroon Members of 'Lets Do It Cameroon', Open Dreams and other organizations, organized the picking of garbage from the environment, and the separation of plastic waste at garbage points, from different start-off points, from Acropole and Mvog-mbi to Carrefour Market Ekie. It was a great day and the Open Dreams family felt fulfilled participating in preserving the sanctity of our environment through this cleanup. Little Actions sum up to big impacts. The World Humanitarian Day: The race against climate change This day was designated in memory of the 22 people, including the chief humanitarian in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, killed on August 19th 2003 at the Canal Hotel in Bagdad in a bomb attack. In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly formalised the day as World Humanitarian Day (WHD). Each year, WHD focuses on a theme, bringing together partners from across the humanitarian system to advocate for the survival, well-being and dignity of people affected by crises, and for the safety and security of aid workers. This year, we highlighted the immediate human cost of the climate crisis by pressuring world leaders to take meaningful climate action for the world’s most vulnerable people, a global challenge for climate action in solidarity with the people who need it most. The climate emergency is wreaking havoc across the world at a scale that people on the front line and in the humanitarian community cannot manage. We are all invited to engage in activities that fight against climate change which is a major problem in our world. If we have to engage ourselves in activities that fight against climate change like; Re-afforestation, Improvement on our waste disposal, the cleaning of water bodies in our communities, the Education of people around us on the importance of carrying out responsible activities with our environment, and many others. We are all alerted to be responsible and sustainable to win the race against climate change because we are lacking, but we can invert the situation if we all stand and take action against climate degeneration. Our strive for quality education… On August 19th 2021, Open Dreams was invited to attend the Tunisian fair organized at Djeuga Palace, Yaounde. Pre-scholars, scholars and mentors all gathered at the hotel, willing and ready to be educated about the available educational opportunities in Tunisia. The Tunisian Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency, Karim Ben Becher, was present for this event; we were all engaged and very attentive, as he presented the study possibilities while launching the fair. On the panel was Paul Naseri Bea (Governor of the Centre Region), Palalou Mindjiyaoua (third deputy to the Yaounde City Mayor), A Representative of the Minister of Secondary Education., Pr. Aaron Logmo (Representative of the Minister of Higher Education).
