Reinette Poisson, more commonly known as Madame de Pompadour, is a notable female figure throughout history. However, it is no longer her achievements the Doctor acknowledges, but rather their experiences together. When Reinette was a little girl, she saw an odd man who called himself the Doctor in her fireplace. He became a reoccurring figure in her life, always around long enough to inspire affections but never long enough for her to really act upon him with the exception of a quick snog. The Doctor revealed that she was the object of desire for a variety of clockwork aliens, and she managed to elude them for thirty-seven years because she is not ready yet. They then came for her at the correct time, trying to steal her brain, but she was saved by the Doctor. He claimed he was going to take her travelling with him, but by the time he returned, he was too late. Reinette had been taken by death. 

Now:

Reinette's found herself in contact with the Doctor again. The Eleventh Doctor decided to go back and save the woman before death took her. After missing her once, he refused to let it happen again. Somehow he found a way to cure her with modern medicine and began taking her on journeys with him, but he planned it in such a way that she still appeared to be dead as not to meddle with history. Their travelling was brief though because now he needs to do some investigating on the small town of Ilchester, Maryland. Reinette followed him and Clara on this adventure, but she's in for a lot more than she bargained.
