The Resistance

Overview

Created in 2013, The Resistance was formed to counter the growing belief that humans and werewolves are viewed as lesser than the rest of society. Initially made to combat anti-humanism through violent raids and assaults, tactics have since changed under the new leadership of Jorey Yoon Lee. Now executing that mission through calculated and premeditated interventions, such as the extrication of human and werewolf prisoners, abolishing witch focused memorials or monuments, clandestine undercover work in fields of power, and much more--the Resistance has seen a higher recruitment and success rate.

Based in and around Salem's catacombs, the Resistance has a covert bunker more than sixty-five feet underground that acts as a main base of operations. It is here where a majority of Resistance personnel work, and where day to day activities occur. This is everything from pro-human/werewolf meetings, to the interrogation of anti-human supporters, to intel sharing and debriefs.

With the recent amendments to the Resistance comes a whole new mandate in which members believe in and work to enforce. Points in the mandate include some of the following:

Human Beings and Werewolves are not a lesser species.

Humans and werewolves are deserving of the same rights as other species.

Humans and werewolves are deserving to work in positions of power.

Equality can only be achieved upon first recognizing systemic speciesism in society.

History

- Formed in 2013, a few years after the witches have taken power and humans were made as inferior, under the leadership of Greyson Stilling.

- Greyson was a human Sergeant with the Salem police force, and began planning for a revolt against the supernatural community as early as 2011. 

- His ideology shifted, however, upon noticing werewolves had also fallen victim to the witches tyranny.

- Greyson remained in power for nearly a decade, and in 2019 met a young werewolf by the name of Jorey Yoon Lee; a newly hired rookie constable who was to be trained under the expertise of Greyson himself.

- The following year in 2020, upon Greyson's passing, Jorey took over position of Commander of the Resistance, which at this point had begun to slowly flourish and grow in numbers.

- Although some of the morals and ethics of the Resistance have changed, it keeps the same foundational mission of restoring an equal balance in society.

Commander: (Reserved for Korra) Jorey Yoon Lee

The leader of the Resistance, it is their job to ensure the health and safety of their members while furthering the agenda of their cause. They make decisions on behalf of the entire organization and put its wellbeing before their own. All important information is relayed directly back to this individual, as in anyone of special interest to The  Resistance. The Commander, although their role is mostly administrative, does go into the field during the more pressing and serious missions, as do they oversee some duties carried out by their Second in Command. Second in Command: (OPEN)

In charge of fulfilling a leadership role when the Commander can not, this individual has many responsibilities on their plate. They are tasked with overseeing simple, non- detrimental agenda's and act as the ambassador of the Commander in meetings and debriefs. The Second in Command has an army of sentries at their finger tips, and often deploys them to where they are needed in Salem. This means that, when need be, the Second in Command is in charge of giving the order for execution (a rare but still possible event).

Faction Lieutenants: OPEN (0/5)

South Salem - OPEN Witchcraft Heights - OPEN Gallows Hill - OPEN McIntire - OPEN The Point - OPEN

The Faction Lieutenants are five hand picked individuals from each district in Salem in charge of running the state of affairs in their corresponding faction. They are required to report to the Second in Command and Commander for monthly debriefs, where they - along with intelligence agents, share valuable information about any news or concerns of their faction. Faction Lieutenants often have many connections within their faction and usually are not of the human or werewolf species. These are individuals who, despite being a species in power, detest the current culture of society and wish to make a change. They hold positions of power in their primary career, such as being doctors, lawyers, CEO's, etc. This allows them to not only blend more with mainstream society, but also to use their contacts for the Resistance's benefit.

Medics: OPEN (0/5)

These people have several responsibilities within The Resistance. Aside from annual check-ups of personnel to ensure they are fit enough for duty, medics also care for those wounded by attacks from anti human supporters. One or two medics will also join sentries on assignments in case medical care is needed.

Intelligence Agents: OPEN (0/5)

These individuals are the eyes and ears of The Resistance; the spies so to speak. They gather intel about witch and anti human affairs and report to both the Faction Lieutenants and the Second in Command. Intelligence agents are essential in the Resistance's operation, as they provide information on the best place to strike, key influential figures of the  opposing side, and on any attacks to their movement. These people also are the ones who will interrogate anti human supporters and their empathizers.

Sentries: OPEN (Unlimited)

Sentries are the enforcers, the people who join high ranking officials on missions and assignments meant to further their initiative. They are the brute force of The Resistance and are often the ones tasked with protecting the defending the main base of operations, and Resistance members from enemy aggression. Sentries are also the people who will utilize violence when it is absolutely necessary, and are extremely trained and skilled in the art of combat. They are the soldiers of this faction, and keep it functioning even in the midst of terrible onslaught. Sentries report back to the Second in Command with any troubling information.

Lycanthrope Packs 

There are techncically two packs in Salem. However, the Atwood Pack are the only pack known to the High Witch Council. This means these lycans are often asked to work alongside the witches when they are called upon, and are often used to scout for illegal activity, such as out of control werewolves and seeking out hunters.

The High Witch Council does not tolerate any in-fighting amongst the lycanthrope and insists that the alpha is voted in via a democratic way. Above all, the alpha is a leader and looks after the wellbeing of their pack. It is their duty to report back on any unruly lycans who may not be ‘fit’ for society. The alpha is expected to be firm but fair and above all, ensure their pack is representing them as a person. 

The Atwood Pack

Being used to do the witches’ bidding, and beckoned upon at random certainly makes the pack grumble. However, they do fear what may happen if the witches turn against them.

 As a reward for their good behaviour, they have been awarded their own land, which includes a section of the Salem Woods, which they have named Atwood Forest.  This is undisturbed by residential homes and is an empty, open space, free for the Atwood pack to run. 

However, as of late, werewolves have began to trespass on this land. For a werewolf, this is a safe space, free of humans who they could accidentally hurt. This is causing lots of tension between the Atwood lycans and the werewolves, who want absolutely nothing to do with them. As a result, the Atwood lycans have struck out and become very territorial to anybody trespassing on their land. The alpha has ordered frequent patrols of the area to ensure that their forest remains protected.

The Alpha (Influential Role): OPEN Highly-strung, mostly stressed and because they didn’t want to lead this pack but it was inherited from their father and they took the mantle after his recent passing. The Alpha, as per tradition, is the leader of the pack. They can be of any gender. The Atwood alpha rules with a strict regime, and at the moment is highly-strung due to the trespassers on their land.

The Second: OPEN  The alpha’s right-hand, they are responsible for stepping up when the alpha is not around and must be capable of bearing the burden of the pack when needed. They will look out for the pack’s best interest and also speak up when they believe the alpha may be taking the pack in the wrong direction.

The Pack Witch: Reserved for Fever -  potentially also an Eye Traditionally, each pack will have a witch within it who they will turn to for healing, help with protective wards and general well-being of their pack. It’s often suspected that these are more to keep an eye on what the lycans are up to and so sometimes these relationships can be quite strained.

The Reynard Pack

The Reynard pack are unknown to the witches and their alpha wants to keep it that way, so they are not forced to do their bidding at any given moment. The alpha of this pack is part of the rebellion and overall, the pack is very anti-witch. They view the witches as a force of evil in the world in the way they reign supreme. 

The alpha has created a safe space for other lycanthropes who feel the same and they have created a sense of community. Whilst these lycans have the same sense of not wanting to be associated with werewolves, they are gentler in their approach and the alpha has been known to offer out support to any werewolf experiencing loneliness or grief over who they are. 

The Reynard lycans are a strong believer in family and inclusion and try to be an ally to all.

The Alpha (Influential Role) : OPEN This alpha is charismatic, charming and believes very much in a ‘leaders eat last’ mentality. They guide the pack with a gentle hand and is very much there as a person of support and acceptance. 

The Second: Reserved for Krista -  AJ Velasquez The alpha’s right-hand, they are responsible for stepping up when the alpha is not around and must be capable of bearing the burden of the pack when needed. The De Lancre Association Hunters 

Lead by proud descendants of the infamous witch hunter, Pierre De Lancre, the De Lancre are a prideful family with a strong sense of duty and ‘morality.’ They seek a return to the old world, where the humans are back at the top of the food chain and are working on a ‘cure’ to end witchcraft and bind all magic. Their methods are cruel, experimental and often create terrible results. 

They have created a draught, intended to ‘cure’ the ‘werewolf disease’, but so far all this has caused is an excruciating death for those who’ve been unfortunate to try it--voluntarily or otherwise. One of their other methods is the bounty hunting of unruly witches, who are known to be especially cruel or hold far too much power. They are working on a draught that blots out magic spells too which again, results have not been favorable with only about 30% of witches surviving the draught, and only 10% having their magic affected in any way. 

The De Lancre family are more of an organization these days, with many voices, strict codes of conduct and various roles for each role to play. They are open to all species except witches and werewolves, and they see witches, primarily, as the problem. 

They do operate like a business and also take on cases from those wronged by witches. For a hefty fee, if you give them a name, they will deal with it. 

Code of Conduct 

The affairs of the De Lancre are not to be discussed with anybody on the outside under any circumstances.

No member shall harm anybody who poses no threat or risk to society.*

Always act in the interests of the weak.

Present yourself with dignity and respect.

Membership within The De Lancre Association is for life.

The Leader: OPEN (Influential Role)

A direct descendent of Pierre de Lancre, a person who takes pride in what they do. Very stoic, calculating and meticulous, the type of person who doesn’t give away too much about what they’re up to and can be ruthless when delivering punishments for those who break the code of conduct. Not one to get his hands dirty and is chief delegator. 

The PA: OPEN

Every business needs a PA to hold down the forte. Seems a bit odd...maybe for a hunter association to have one, however there is plenty of paperwork to file from various cases and leads. There’s the job of keeping the books, organizing cleans up and telling others what to do. They’re fiercely loyal to the leader and maybe aren’t too popular amongst the hunters for their snappy personality (but they don’t have the guts to say so).

Hunters: (Findlay) Name TBD - OPEN (4/5+)

These are the assassins. Those whose job is to locate targets named by the association and make it their duty to find and kill them by any means necessary. They’re not to ask questions about the whats or the whys. Some of these are paid handsomely, but most of them do it for the cause. Perhaps disgust at what their world has become, sometimes to avenge loved ones, others for the adrenaline rush.

Clean up crew: OPEN (5/5+)

These are the ones that get messy, and literally do just that. Take care to get rid of any evidence left by one of their botched experiments or after a culling is done and boy they’ve seen some sights. Again, they don’t ask questions. 

Scientists: OPEN (5/5+)

These are the ones making the cures for magic and the ‘werewolf disease’ the ones that the humans say are providing hope for all. The ones who are finding test subjects or having test subjects brought in from the hunters, sometimes willing sometimes not, for their currently very toxic concoctions. There are no ethics in what they do and it’s all very experimental.

This faction is for a hunter association around Salem. Not every hunter needs to be in the association, and some don’t agree with their methods or care for the corporate or institutional feel of what was once a very raw and personal experience. However, few have opted for a ‘safety in numbers’ feel when dealing with this new, very vocal threat.

The open canons are very loose and we hope to carve out this section of Salem with those that wish to take lead on any of these roles and round them out further to their characters’ goals or desires. There are more positions than just the five under those headings, but for simplicity’s sake, we’ve just added a little bullet list if anyone wants to be added. On-site or if one gets over 5, we will update as many as needed. Sky’s the limit! Bring us all your folks that have had enough.

숨겨진 시장 sumgyeojin sijang 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 (Influential Role) - (Reserved for Angel) Seong “Seo” Yoo 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫 - Haneul “H” Hyun

Transferred to Seong in 2011 after the death of its former leader and his father, Yoo Dae-Seong, the black market still continues to thrive under the Yoo name, and a ruthless, firm grip helps it stay that way. He kept the faction in his father’s image, a legacy ran cold in contrast to Seong’s exceptional gift of fire, and one he needed in order to be taken seriously as a boy still maturing at a crucial turning point in his life. Many members loyal to his father stepped up to show him the ropes and care for him, and he was never without guidance from his trusted familiar, Haneul, as well. Others simply parted ways, doubtful the boy could lead, and those that left were remembered for their broken fealty--if they were remembered by the world at all. The Black Market never leaves loose ends.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭  - (Reserved for Jager) Vivienne “Vee” Levitt

A person hired by Seo’s father that has made many contacts in their tenure. They receive requests for things hard to find and costly to obtain and are responsible for locating and executing these wishes flawlessly. Not only does this person report directly to H, they oftentimes work with him, the raven familiar an asset in many ways for inconspicuous surveying and an excellent line of sight that can spot their assignment easily.

𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 - OPEN

A newer hire selected to undertake all trafficking procedures. Their skills were more valuable to Seo than the man his father had selected, so he respectfully made the switch. The trafficking specialist makes sure all Fae or other items are transported to their destinations in one piece. 

They are under no circumstances to ever traffic shifters, and are instructed to report back to H with any leads on those that do traffic shifters. 

𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 - (Reserved for Kitty) Gabriel Byun

Gabriel met H and Seong through similar connections around five years ago. They got to know each other slowly and built a good friendship. After some conversations, Gabriel was selected for the position as a trusted person to take over the position. They are in charge of locating all targets and disposing of them correctly and discretely. If information is needed from the target before their demise, it is the assassin‘s responsibility to make sure every bit of information is received. All information is to be given directly to H once the job is completed.

𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - OPEN

A person hired by Seo’s father when Seo and H were younger. Someone they trust to make sure that all jobs are taken care of. The distribution underboss is in charge of contacting clients, delivering products, keeping customers apprised of any new goods to hit the market and giving payment back to H. All of which takes place in different secure locations every time.

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 - (Reserved for kiki) Name TBD

Hired by Seong’s father, the security underboss has been around the family and business for years. They are a trusted member of the black market, and responsible for all business security as well as the protection of the Yoo family home. The security underboss reports mainly to H, but also meets with Seo twice a month for check-ins and updates.

This faction is for a seedy underbelly operating under Salem’s nose. Only those involved are aware of its existence--and, well, some authorities and clients. However, they do not like to be out in the known and take many preventative measures to ensure they are able to barter in the shadows successfully without fear of being found. There is no set location with the market, the meets and sales always moving and rarely in the same place twice. 

Most of the business is handled by Seong’s familiar, Haneul, as the witch has little time to mingle in the minutia of business, though he can make himself available if the necessity is there. However, “H” is an extension of the market’s leader in every way and is treated with the same respect and speaks with the same authority as Seong.

As far as the open canons, how/when they were hired can be discussed with Angel. They are very loose concepts with nothing really set in stone except for the hierarchy.
