Thundercall (he/they/spark), TreeClan deputy in life (Lightningstar's former clan). Lightningstar's littermate.
Thundercall and Lightningstar were inseparable since kithood. As kits, then as warrior apprentices, and then finally as full-fledged warriors, Thundercall and Lightningstar always challenged one another to do better β not to be "better" than the other, but because they believed in each other, and in themselves.
Even when Thundercall became TreeClan's deputy, a role both spark and then-Lightningshine dreamed of achieving, the brothers were as close as ever. It was only a couple of seasons into The Great War that Thundercall began to drift away from Lightningshine.
Thundercall grew closer and closer with Puddlestep's group of rebels who opposed the war, believing it had gone too far. Thundercall secretly worked with Puddlestep's group, hoping it would help bring about a peaceful end to the war.
But, as much as Thundercall loved and trusted his brother, he knew Lightningshine was nothing if not loyal. As much as it pained them, Thundercall knew they had to keep the secret from their littermate.
When TreeClan's current β and, ultimately, final β leader found out about Thundercall's treason, the leader killed Thundercall on the spot, denouncing spark as a traitor.
That was the moment Lightningshine began to think, truly think, about the war. If Thundercall, thon's own littermate, couldn't trust thon, how wrong was thon acting?? And if their leader could kill their own deputy, their own clanmate, so cruelly...
... what else did Lightningshine get wrong??

Spruceclaw (he/they), warrior in life. StoneClan cat. Ghostpaw's father.
Spruceclaw is a loyal StoneClan warrior β or, at least, he was, until he began falling in love with an enemy TreeClan warrior, Duskfern.
It wasn't supposed to happen. Spruceclaw was a good, loyal warrior β but sneaking out of his camp, sneaking to the TreeClan border, all to meet with someone who was meant to be an enemy??
It was wrong. It had to be wrong.
But, then again... Spruceclaw been a good warrior this long, right?? Surely, he was still a good warrior... right??
... then, Spruceclaw's mate, Duskfern, confessed he was expecting kits.
He had to leave. They had to leave. So, they left their clans. Still, Spruceclaw and Duskfern couldn't bring themselves to travel far from their former clans.
Duskfern's pregnancy was rough. Kitting wasn't any easier. In the midst of leaf-bare, Duskfern died kitting Inkykit, Juniperkit, and Finchkit. Spruceclaw froze to death trying to keep their family warm. Inkykit and Juniperkit froze to death, too.
Finchkit was found by Puddlestep's group, miraculously alive. At the end of The Great War, just one moon later, Finchkit would change his own name to Ghostkit.
Spruceclaw gave Lightningstar a life for responsibility.

Peachrustle and Lightningstar were never close. Not that they were enemies β far from it β but they were simply clanmates, nothing more, nothing less. And Peachrustle, truthfully, was never anything extraordinary β at least, not in life.
Peachrustle's death during a squabble with FrostClan would ultimately be the first of what became The Great War.

After a devastating war, the old clans traveled to a new territory. There, they formed three new clans: PetalClan, CloudClan, and ShellClan. This story, of Petals, Clouds, and Shells (oPCaS) follows these three clans, switching between them to tell an interwoven story.
Tags for characters will be structured as follows: "[prefix] opcas." If a new character wants to use a tag already in use, their tag will be "[prefix] x opcas," where they are the xth cat to use that prefix.
This blog will contain a combination of writing and comics, likely leaning heavier on the "pure" writing side.
This blog will contain heavy themes, such as animal death and violence. I will do my best to tag these things, but I may be more lax when tagging "canon-typical" subject matter. If you suspect I missed something, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Drystripe (they/them), healer in life. StoneClan cat (Fluffymoon's former clan). Fluffymoon's parent and mentor.
If Drystripe was able to go back and wait to have kits until they were a bit older, a bit more mature, a bit more ready, they'd be tempted. Not that they don't love their kit more than all of the stars in Silverpelt, but they can't help but wonder... what if they had waited??
But, they didn't. And they'll never know. And they're okay with that. They have to be okay with that.
Fluffykit was the best thing to ever happen to Drystripe. From the moment he was born, he and Drystripe were best friends. Before Drystripe knew it, Fluffypaw was their apprentice, training to be a healer, just like his parent. Then, Drystripe seemed to blink once again, and suddenly Fluffystripe was earning his full healer name.
On The Great Journey, Ghostkit, an orphaned kit fathered by a StoneClan cat and a TreeClan cat, grew close to both Drystripe and Fluffystripe. When Drystripe grew ill not too long after, they felt glad that their son wouldn't be alone when they passed on; he had his own son now, too, after all.
Drystripe gave Fluffymoon a life for family.
Firedust (thon/she), warrior in life. StoneClan cat (Fluffymoon's former clan).
Healers never forget the first cats they lose.
Fluffystripe hadn't been a full healer for long when one of his clanmates, Firedust, fell ill. After some investigation, StoneClan's healers discovered a deathberry bush growing beside a pond had contaminated the water.
As Firedust seemed stable enough at the time, StoneClan's only other healer at the time, Drystripe, trusted Fluffystripe to watch over Firedust as they checked the pond for any clues to help Firedust.
But, Firedust's condition worsened far quicker than Drystripe had expected. Fluffystripe sent a clanmate to fetch Drystripe, but by the time the older healer made it back to camp, it was too late. Firedust was gone.
Fluffystripe never forgave himself for failing Firedust. Firedust never blamed Fluffystripe.
Firedust gave Fluffymoon a life for acceptance.
Duskfern (he/it), warrior in life. TreeClan. Ghostpaw's father.
Duskfern was always proud to be a TreeClan cat. The best clan by far β was there ever any doubt?? β and he'd never betray it. To think otherwise would be ridiculous.
... so, why did it feel so weird around this enemy warrior from StoneClan, Spruceclaw??
Duskfern knew it was wrong. He wasn't supposed to love Spruceclaw β he couldn't love Spruceclaw. And yet, he did.
Despite everything, Duskfern couldn't stay away.
Duskfern panicked when it realized it was pregnant. Neither TreeClan nor StoneClan would ever accept half-clan kits, or a mate who was loyal to another clan. Still, Duskfern was surprised by Spruceclaw's decisiveness β they had to leave the clans. He was right.
Duskfern and Spruceclaw couldn't bring themselves to travel too far away from the clans, though.

Not long ago, in the old territories, there existed five clans;
FloodClan, which lived in the marsh;
FrostClan, which lived in the moorland;
StoneClan, which lived in the hills;
LoudClan, which lived in the desert;
and TreeClan, which lived in the forest.
The five clans lived side-by-side for generations. Things were not always peaceful, but they always managed to work through it in the end.
... until, they didn't.
Over time, the leaders of the clans became power-hungry and selfish. The clans turned on one another, each of them intent on claiming all five territories as their own. The Great War raged on for years, leaving countless dead.
Even before StarClan forsook them, many of the living clan cats did not approve of their leaders' actions. Eventually, the fighting died out, as did most of the supporters of the war. When StarClan returned, the living cats begged for forgiveness. StarClan gave it easily, not blaming those who survived for being dragged into the senseless violence.
However, the living cats found they could no longer live in their current territories. Each blade of grass had been torn by claws, each drop of water turned red with blood. So, the survivors left in search of a new home, hoping StarClan would guide their paws.
The survivors traveled for many moons. When they found their new home, however, the survivors realized they had been changed by the Great Journey. A deep care for one another, regardless of clan or origin, a taken hold in their hearts.
It was then that they decided to form three new clans;
PetalClan, which would live in the plains;
CloudClan, which would live in the mountains;
and ShellClan, which would live by the sea.
To prevent anything like the Great War from ever happening again, the newly-formed clans decided to redesign their leadership structure. Instead of a leader and a deputy, each clan would have three Head Cats;
a Head Warrior, with a name ending in -star;
a Head Healer, with a name ending in -moon;
and a Head Mediator, with a name ending in -sun.
To further avoid the corruption of leadership, Head Cats would be elected by their clanmates, rather than selected by their predecessor.
Approving of this new structure, StarClan decided to grant each Head Cat three lives each, rather than granting nine to a single cat. To further show their approval, StarClan granted the Head Cats physical marks;
the Head Warriors received star-shaped markings on their foreheads;
the Head Healers received moon-shaped markings under their ears;
and the Head Mediators received sun-shaped markings above their eyes.
And thus, PetalClan, CloudClan, and ShellClan were born.

orchidstar (petalclan): losing her remaining kit, berrytail :< also monsters/thunderpaths
berrytail (petalclan): losing his mother and monsters/thunderpaths
lightningstar (cloudclan): not being able to resist xyr intrusive thoughts
snakekit (cloudclan): that the clans will never see him as a "true" clan cat because of his kittypet past
puddlesun (shellclan): that he'll never escape his past; becoming further disabled (already lost both an eye and an ear)
𦴠What is the worst injury they've ever suffered? (Lightningstar)
i know you probably mean physically, but the loss of lightningstar's brother, thundercall, was the worst injury ve ever suffered. thundercall was treeclan's deputy during the time, but was secretly working with a group of cats who were against the great war raging through the clans. when treeclan's leader found out, they killed thundercall for the treason.
lightningstar, then lightningshine, had no idea that thundercall was working with the anti-war cats. thon hadn't really been against the war at that point, but the loss of thon's brother β and the realization that thundercall didn't trust lightningshine enough to share that secret with thon β made lightingshine really reconsider thon's feelings on the war.
as for physical injury, meanwhile, lightningstar fell out of a tree as an apprentice because ey was trying to show off. eir tail was caught in the intersection of multiple branches as e fell, dislocating it badly. the treeclan healers considered em lucky to still have a tail. e still has a scar on the base of eir tail to this day.

a very pretty woman who is not "visibly" trans, since she was able to access blockers/estrogen at a young age, but who is also very proud of and vocal about her trans identity. she works at a non-profit and does a bunch of other volunteer work. she's always doing ten things at once, but still manages to prioritize her kids (she had a fling with a friend and agreed to be the main caretaker for their twins). her daughter's death as a high school junior due to a car crash devastated both her and her son.

his voice is quiet and somewhat gravelly. his tone is usually pretty dry/even/flat.

honestly?? i don't know. i WANT to say yes, i really, really do, but i honestly don't know. i'm not sure if he'd be a good mentor right now, but i think he could be a good mentor for SOME cats!! he's definitely. a bit strange, to say the very least ^^' i don't think he'd be very good at teaching more basic skills, but he's very creative, and great at thinking in a variety of ways :]

orchidstar (petalclan): in frostclan, then-orchidbloom had a fling with a (cis female) clanmate who ended up getting pregnant. the clanmate didn't really want kits, but orchidbloom was thrilled, so she agreed to be the main caretaker. the clanmate decided to stay in the old territory instead of embarking on the great journey.
yarrowmoon and flintpelt (petalclan): then-yarrowstalk and flintpelt were in love for many moons before they officially got together. they would've left the clans to be together if yarrowstalk didn't feel like he had to stay to take care of his clanmates, especially with the war going on. the second the war ended, though, yarrowstalk and flintpelt officially got together. they didn't wait long before having kits (heatherkit, redkit, and sandykit).
yarrowmoon (petalclan) and whorlmoon (shellclan): whorlmoon is yarrowmoon's former mentor.
berrytail (petalclan): berrytail is sure that he'll be head warrior some day. unrelated, but when he eventually has kits, he's going to name one after his late sister, dewpaw.
heatherkit (petalclan): heatherkit is named after flintpelt's littermate, heatherpelt, who she was very close with. heatherpelt died during the great war, and was the only family member flintpelt was close to at the time.
lightningstar (cloudclan): lightningstar has struggled with intrusive thoughts since she was a kit. she doesn't understand what they are/what they mean and is terrified that it's the dark forest speaking to her.
rainsun (cloudclan): rainsun joined the traveling survivors as a loner named rain after falling for a cat named sunnyheart. sunnyheart died failing to save dewpaw, orchidstar's daughter and berrytail's sister, from a monster. rain almost left the group after sunnyheart's death.
silverheart (cloudclan): as an apprentice, silverheart's tail was badly injured by an enemy warrior. due to this, he graduated multiple moons late, and ended up losing half of his tail.
ghostpaw (cloudclan): ghostpaw insisted on the prefix "ghost-."
cement mixer (cloudclan): cement mixer's former mate, domino, is (out-of-universe) named after the cat of the same name from amphibia, a cartoon (anne bounchuy's cat).
snakekit (cloudclan): snakekit and his littermates were all given cookie-themed names (sugar, snickerdoodle, oreo). snakekit's former name was "oatmeal."
turtlestar (shellclan): i really hated turtlestar at first. i'm not even really sure why?? i just. did not like her. i'm over that now, tho ^^'
puddlesun (shellclan): then-puddlestep used to be frostclan's deputy. after he went too far and accidentally killed an enemy warrior, he not only gave up his position, but left frostclan entirely. he never recovered from that mistake. to his surprise, puddlestep became the leader of an anti-war group composed of cats from each of the five clans of the time.
kestrelpaw (shellclan): i did something with kestrelpaw that i've never done before. but you'll have to wait to find out what ;)

and, for the record, cement mixer isn't upset or insulted by snakekit bringing up their (shared) kittypet past β cement mixer was a housecat, and he still loves his housefolk!! β but he's heartbroken that snakekit, his beloved son, is hurt by it.
i don't know how much i'll go into pre-moon 0 stuff, (other than a fic i'm working on, hehe,) but cement mixer was actually quite happy being a housecat!! he only joined the group of traveling survivors β what would later become petalclan, cloudclan, and shellclan β because he knew that, in the few cases where housecats had kits, those kits tended to be taken away.
snakekit, then oatmeal, was actually one of four kits (the others were named oreo, snickerdoodle, and sugar. their mom is named domino). snakekit was the only one who wanted to leave with cement mixer. if none of the kits had wanted to leave, cement mixer wouldn't have, either.
so, what snakekit says, that cement mixer is acting like he doesn't really want to be a cloudclan cat β it's true. snakekit doesn't realize that, of course, but still.

shortly after the traveling survivors left their old territory, ashtrot had a fling with a kittypet/loner/whatever, it doesn't really matter, and happened to end up getting pregnant.
ashtrot... never really liked kits.
she wasn't exactly thrilled to have some of her own.
ashtrot gave birth to a single kit, kestrelkit. she tried to spend as little time with her kit as possible, but when she did spend time with kestrelkit, ashtrot did her best to pretend to like her kit. ... or, at least, that's what she told herself.
since there were a lot of cats who were happy to spend time with kestrelkit, she didn't realize how little time she actually spent with her mother (she knew it wasn't a ton, but she didn't realize how little it actually was).
kestrelkit adores her mother, and wants to be a mediator, just like her!! she begged shellclan's head cats to let her be ashtrot's apprentice!! since puddlesun was shellclan's only other mediator, and he didn't think he could handle being both a head cat and a mentor β honestly, he's not sure he can handle being either, but he doesn't really have a choice about that β the head cats agreed.
kestrelpaw doesn't understand why ashtrot isn't happy to be her mentor.
βͺοΈ are they religious or superstitious in any way?
kestrelpaw isn't sure how to feel about starclan. at first, all she knew about them was that they sent the traveling survivors on a journey before she was even born.
after fallingfox died β turtlespeckle (turtlestar)'s mate and the father of honeykit and acornkit β kestrelkit was confused. cats said fallingfox was "with starclan now." but she thought starclan was with them?? or was their journey supposed to bring them to starclan?? no one could give her a satisfying answer.
then, sunnyheart and dewpaw died. (sunnyheart was rain (rainsun)'s mate and the reason he joined the group of traveling survivors. dewpaw was orchidbloom (orchidstar)'s kit and berrypaw (berrytail)'s sister and kestrelkit's friend.) kestrelkit went from confused, to confused and angry. why would starclan take away fallingfox and sunnyheart?? why would they take away dewpaw??
but then, dewpaw led berrypaw to the gathering- and moonplaces, and nine of their companions gained special markings gifted to them by starclan, and...
kestrelpaw isn't sure what to think of starclan right now. but she thinks that maybe, they're just cats, like her, but maybe with a few special powers.
