Sending a prompt for Hellena + uhhhh [scrolls through a prompt list] "You're never going to be the same after this" 👀
RUBS HANDS TOGETHER. ok so there were a couple of ideas that immediately came to mind (The Divorce key among them) but this one was very fun
When she first hears them say it (off-hand, as if it were something she should have seen coming) she thinks they're joking. It isn't until her mother looks at her, expecting her to be happy—to be grateful—that she realises no one here is kidding themselves aside from her.
"You can't be serious," she says. Her voice wavers, thin and uncertain. "Bastian?"
"We've all seen the way you look at him, dear," her mother says. "You needn't hide your feelings with us."
"How could you possibly think I have feelings for him? We're friends!"
Her mother tuts disapprovingly. "Don't play coy, Hellena. Earl Kostas' station is far above ours. The fact that His Grace, the Duke, even entertained this suit is incredible enough."
"And Bastian?" Hellena hears herself ask, "He—He also entertained this? He agreed?"
Her father clicks his tongue. "Does that even bear asking, girl? You're not a child anymore, Hellena. You need to act like it. The wedding will be next year, if His Grace permits it."
Her mother leans forward and draws Hellena's hands into her own. Tears have gathered at the corners of her eyes. "My dear girl," she says wistfully. "Your whole life will change once you marry the Earl of Kostas."
Hellena can feel herself trembling, but she won't let herself fall apart here. She can't let them see the despair coiling in her gut. She forces herself to smile, to nod and agree, and asks to be excused. Her parents, exchanging looks of relief, allow her to leave.
Hellena runs away that night.
A deal with a wagoner gets her part of the way out of her father's territory. She sheds her life as the fourth daughter of a provincial baron one sale at a time, trading frills and jewels for much more travel-hardy apparel. Hellena's never been one to stand out in a crowd but by the time she's made it to the capital, her own parents likely wouldn't recognise her. Still, when Bastian bursts through the door of her inn room, he calls her name right away.
"I got your letter," he says, "I came as soon as I could."
Hellena's holding a dagger, has been since she'd heard him coming up the stairs. She doesn't drop it, even though she knows it's practically useless against him. It's a warning to stay back, and one that he heeds.
"Did you know?" she demands.
Bastian doesn't even give her the courtesy of blinking. "I didn't."
He sounds tired, but then, he always does nowadays. She doesn't let herself soften.
"Did you know?"
"I swear. I didn't know. I wouldn't have let them—"
She feels a laugh rip itself from her throat. "Don't lie to me. We both know you would."
Now, Bastian steps closer. "On my life. Hellena, I would not do this to you."
The blade clatters to the ground. She presses her hands to her head.
"Okay," she begins. Takes one ragged breath then another. Drops her hands. Tries again. "Okay. What do I do, Bas? I can't go back there."
"Then don't. Get as far away from here as you can. I brought some cash with me. Once you find someplace you think is safe, write to me again and I'll arrange for more funds to be sent."
"I'm not living off you."
"You know it's fine—"
"It's not."
"I'm trying to help you," Bastian says, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Just let me do that, Hellena."
Hellena lifts her chin. "Don't patronise me, Bas. I've had enough of that already."
He opens his mouth to interject, but she barrels on.
"Whatever you give me, I'll repay. On fair terms to you, even. I'll set up shop, do… I don't know, some kind of merchant business."
"With what contacts?"
"That's for me to figure out."
"And if you fail?"
"Then we reassess at a set date. But I won't fail. Bastian, you and I both know that I'm not some spoiled eighteen year-old brat venturing out into the world for the first time. I can do this."
He looks at her then. Really, truly looks at her, one transmigrator to another. Sighs.
"Your cousin's going to kill me if he finds out I helped you do this," he mutters.
"But he won't find out, right Bas?"
His shoulders slump. "I won't tell anyone I saw you," he swears.
"Good, 'cause I'll kill you if you do," she promises sweetly. "If I have to get married to you, because of you, I will literally murder you in your sleep. Now, I've got this idea about a guild…"

Oc asks!! I feel like we've talked about ocs so much I know the answers to a lot of these buuut 33 and 57 for Hellena, 14 38 and 42 for Mikhail!
It's true we normally cover this stuff eh? sniffles fondly. i love our kajillion conversations with our guys.
For Hellena:
33. What are one of their fondest and most treasured memories?
Hanging out with Bastian after they both realised they'd transmigrated and could be comfortable around each other.
57. What was the most stupid or dangerous thing they have ever done?
Aside from sailing off to another continent because of her divorce? I would say that when she was first starting up the guild, Hellena got a little too confident in her own safety and forgot that this world is a rofan where just walking down a shadowy alley—even in broad daylight—can get an unaccompanied woman into trouble. She got the idea for the magic disguise cloaks after that.
For Mikhail:
14. What does it take to make them laugh, and what does their laugh sound like?
He has a strange sense of humour, so things like weirdly translated signs crack him up for some reason. Since he's been smoking for a while, his laughter is a little raspy and low. He's not very loud.
38. What do they usually do or where do they go when they need to feel comfortable and safe?
The safest place for him would probably be his childhood home. He thinks it's embarassing though, so he would probably bunker down in a safehouse if he was in danger—and then his parents and the older generation would give him an earful. When it comes to emotional safety... Maybe once he meets Angel, he seeks that out by his side subconsciously.
42. What is their idea of a perfect friendly hangout and/or romantic date?
hello ... i was wondering where you read "i'm an inf regressor but i've got stories to tell" not that wetriedTL isn't translating it anymore T_T
Hello— I must confess, I haven't been keeping up with Infinite Regressor. I've been somewhat busy with work and haven't actually had time to read webnovels recently (or write sorryifyouwantedaficupdateveryone). I used to follow the tl on Reaper Scans, but google now informs me that I somehow missed RS getting sniped oops. If anyone's able to help this poor soul out feel free to chime in
you're sweet but please don't call me by endearments unless you know me personally 😅 also dw someone would have to try a lot harder than that to make me upset lol

Same anon from before, thanks for answering! Had a vague idea that could be the case. My main fandom is plagued by whitewashing from official and fan art so that's what I'm used to watching out for. Hate to see it :/ but again thank you for explaining it
no problem! it's sucky but that's the state of affairs...
