#oorijzer

i’m working on some oc outfits and i wanted to try recycling the dutch oorijzer, which was used in the 16th and 17th centuries to hold women’s caps in place. in the past it was worn underneath the cap, only visible if the cap was sheer fabric. the ends could be decorated with ornaments as a sort of replacement for earrings, since their ears were hidden. there are a ton of variations from the different regions of the netherlands.

i think oorijzers are really interesting and pretty so i want a headdress that’s similar to them, but just used as jewelry. the forehead ornament i drew would also be worn with the oorijzer, pinned to the front edge of the cap for special occasions. i added red garnets, which were popular for the traditional style of necklace from the same era.
