wistfully had question dropped from lips , a passing thought to float away with the breeze. her words to drive further a cold point of truth , acknowledgement hardly comes in way of visible answer , remembering stern set of eyes turned to warmth.  timber of voice while rough holding a peace that leaves his eyes watery.  a voice finally reminding him to stand tall , stand strong , be who he must for those eyes that seek a peace of their own.  

and it’s always been this way , hasn’t it ?   unwillfull facing of grief and yet , beyond cold stone locking throat tight , he swallows and renews now a resolve he had been so reluctant to catch. the shoes he must fill are large but a path he will make his own , for certain.  (  ghosts of pasts may watch and judge but as time goes on all he cares to give them is naught but a furious , sadly resigned opinion. )  

again and again and again does the wish , the want , to just put it all on pause rise up in him. and again and again and again does he remember those lost and so he steels features and keeps lips tightly shut.  instead he reaches a hand out and sets it gently to her shoulder and hopes that this small gesture conveys properly all that he feels.
