1: PRECARITY People. Change. Museums. By Sophie Frost

'Precarity' refers to the condition of being precarious - of being flexible, insecure, dependent, vulnerable and exposed. In 2020, the word 'precarity' couldn’t be more pertinent as we find ourselves and our museums in a variety of insecure, dependent, vulnerable and exposed states. At the same time, our world feels rife with precarity - we are in the middle of a global pandemic, of ongoing racial injustice, of spiralling inequality, of frustrations around access and inclusion, of anxieties over national borders - both real and imagined - and in a global climate emergency.

Weaving narratives of violence, intimacy and gender norms, queer performance makers, Tom Ross-Williams and Oonagh Murphy offer a fresh perspective on the critique of gender inequality.  Give Me Your Skin encourages the audience to actively resist stereotypes, moving out of the realm of discourse and into the mode of action. What if patriarchy was a game and we could break the rules?

Tom Ross-Williams

is a performer and the artistic director of Populace — a theatre company of politics and optimism. He was a panellist at the Being a Man Festival and recently wrote a blog for the Huffington Post about the impetus for GMYS.He is an ambassador for Great Men and regularly runs feminist workshops with young people, most recently for the Advocacy Academy. Acting credits include RSC, The Yard, Soho Theatre, National Theatre Studio, Bush Theatre and Chris Goode & Co.

Oonagh Murphy

is a theatre director, dramaturg and creative facilitator. She is currently developing projects with various communities groups which include young adults with intellectual disabilities, senior citizens and LGBT asylum-seekers. She was RAD at the Donmar Warehouse in 2013 and has directed work for the Abbey Theatre, Druid Theatre Company, The Lir, and Project Arts Centre.
