video description: a static view of the second to last manga page of owari no seraph chapter 118, it shows, reading from top to bottom, right to left, first a panel of Shinoa with a look of worry and tears in her eyes, then a panel of Yuu sitting up from where his head was on her lap, Shinoa is startled and saying "No! Don't! Don't you dare say it...", then a panel of Yuu's side profile from behind, he's saying "I'm leaving." Finally, a long panel that takes up the left half of the page of what looks like a lightning strike as Yuu leaves quickly. Over the picture is playing the song Un velero llamado libertad, (A sailboat called freedom in english) by Jose Luis Perales, specifically a part of the chorus that says "y se marcho, y a su barco le llamĂł libertad" ("and she left, and her boat she called freedom" in english) a popular latin american meme
my mans just straight up left, good for him <3
im genuinely tired of them writing shinoa as if all she cares about is yuu, come on guys, come oooooon, her character is just plain bad writing, her "I cant live without you" feels so ridiculous, I'd tell her to read the fucking room but she's not a real person, the problem is how she's written, I'd thought she might be a voice of reason bc she seemed the most reluctant to fight Yuu back in 115 but then they just did that, it feels ridiculous, it is ridiculous and her character deserves better
I'm pissed off at shinoa squad as well, Guren fucking ambushed Yuu back in 114, and they let themselves be part of that, Guren said "pay attention to Yuu and his choice. if he chooses not to sacrifice Mika he is your enemy" and like good little pawns they grabbed their fucking weapons but then Yuu was fighting Asuramaru and going demon mode and as soon as they realized they might not win they turned to "Yuu let's talk about this, we're all family here" and yes Guren also ambushed them bc who wouldnt want to bring back their family, but I HATE how they just turned on Yuu immediately, turned on Mika immediately, how long have they spent together?? how long have they known Yuu?? and yet, despite knowing just how much Mika means to Yuu they turned on him at the first chance they got
I also read on a post before, and I agree, that while their families are dead and Mika is technically dead as well it's not the same fucking thing bc Mika is still here, conscious, he might not be alive by common standards but he's not dead in the same way that the rest of them are dead, they're asking Yuu to kill Mika for good for people that have been dead a long time already
Asuramaru saying that all of those were fake memories, manipulated emotions, that Yuu's real family is shinoa squad pissed me off too
I didnt fucking miss Ferid smiling while all of this was going down btw
Guren is an asshole, I still fucking hate him
I hope Yuu really does know what he's doing tho I seriously doubt it, I can only hope for the best and that he really does find a way
Wtfff⌠did Yuu just kill Asuramaru?!?!
Hi, itâs me again. Omg I am so curious to see what the effects of him consuming Ashuramaru are. Unless Iâm forgetting something (feel free to correct me if I am), I think this is the first time weâve seen something like this. Is this gonna affect both Yuu and Mika equally? In different ways? Is it just a power up or are there other consequences?
Also, I nearly 100% expected the power of friendship to win out, but Yuu legit ate Asuramaru then sat there with a smile on his face đł I guess Yuu is going rogue frfr. Genuinely canât believe he had all his friends apologizing for wanting a completely justifiable and ethical outcome, just for him to not give a shit. Like they were promising to work stuff out together so he could be happy and Yuu just said âno thanksâ. For what???
I literally laughed at the beginning when theyâre telling Yuu to âsnap out of itâ, âthis isnât who you areâ, and thinking that weakening his demons will stop the problem. Yuu being himself is the problem!!! Him actually being possessed wouldâve worked out better for everyone lmao
Plus, Yuuâs line about winning feeling empty does not seem indicate good things for his future. I mean itâs crazy that everyone except maybe Mika thought that he was out of control when he claims to be sane the entire time. He straight up manipulated the demons who live in his mind into thinking he was seeing reason, just to double down on his decision. First with Mika, then with Asuramaru.
Overall, I just feel a lil gobsmacked by this chp. Ik Yuu probably still feels that he can have his cake and eat it too, but the way heâs ignoring everybody for the sake of his goal makes me worried that heâs gonna become a âthe ends justify the meansâ type in a distinctly immoral way. (not that Iâm totally against that đ) Like him being willing to go with what the First wants rn so that he can do his own plan is screaming red flag to me. Especially since they both clearly prioritize Mika. Just how many more of their goals are gonna end up aligned đ¤¨
Wow, this is late and I apologize for that.
Yeah wow, what a chapter. Where to even begin?
It does seem like Ashura is just dead now yes. This is the first time we've seen something like this so I guess it could be possible that Ashura could be brought back but I highly doubt it. I await Krul's reaction to this. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised we didn't get it here but maybe there wasn't page space for it. As for what it does? It'll just power Yu and Mika up I imagine. It'll be interesting to see if it gives them Ashuramaru's powers though. ... but I guess it wasn't like those were used that often anyways.
I was the same way. I think anime has conditioned me so much that I didn't think that there was any way that the power of friendship would lose, but really, at the same time, I don't know why I thought that. As you mentioned, we all knew that Yu was completely sane throughout this. There was nothing driving him to this other than his own will. I guess you could say Sika Madu is manipulating him, but that's all it was. Manipulation, not control. As a quick aside, I really wonder why anyone thought that Yu was going beserk when there was nothing causing that. Ashura obviously wasn't causing this as they knew he was being attacked iirc, and neither was Mika. Yu wasn't seraphing out either. I guess you could guess Sika Madu, but I don't know what would exactly cause you to think that from the perspective of anyone there. ... Though the more I think about it, the more I think it wasn't that they thought that he was possessed so much as they thought that Yu would come to see a different perspective on things and stop for a second to consider his actions. In that case, things make a little more sense. It did bother me that the squad kept saying those things. True, they didn't fully consider Yu's feelings about all this but at the same time, it'd be a bit ridiculous to expect these kids to be willing to throw away everything just so Yu could have Mika. The words felt kinda fake you know? Not the 'we can talk it out' part, but pretty much everything else. However, it's like you said. They'd talk it out and for what?
It is troublesome seeing how... well Yu takes killing someone he considered a friend. It makes you wonder how empty Yu's relationships with most of the cast really are. And yes, it's wild to see Yu this manipulative. Manipulative isn't a word I would have applied to his character at all before the last few chapters, but he's using everyone's care for him against them and it's honestly terrifying. Just how little disregard does he have for everyone that isn't Mika and maybe Guren?
Oh I 100% agree with you. That is the direction Yu's character is going and unless someone stops him, I can't see him diverging from that path. Again, he (seemingly) killed someone he called a friend so easily and with little regard. Who's to say he won't do that to others if that is what has to happen? Yu says he's not going to follow Sika Madu, but you're right. If their goals align, I do wonder if Yu would be willing to work with him. It's a terrifying thought.
On a final note, I'm just as gobsmacked as you are tbh. There's a lot to process with Yu's character now and having just read the chapter, I don't think I've quite fully processed it yet.
Thanks for the ask as always!
