Part 6 – Retribution, not likely. How about revelation!
We all had to wait in the principal’s office until our parent would show up. My mom was the first to arrive since she didn’t had to go far. Then came Chases and the last person to show up was Nates father. As soon as he entered you could feel the tension in the room rising. I wondered why Nates mother wouldn’t show up. I never saw his father show his face in our school and I kinda was worried how things would turn out. Boy, was I right to worry.
“So now that everyone is here, let us start.” Our principle said. In reality she only cares about her job. Otherwise we wouldn’t sit here. She explained to our parents what had happened and Mr Walton, Nates father, was the first to say “That’s why you called us here. They had a fight. They are teenagers. Let them fight.” “Mr Walton I am afraid it isn’t just that simple.” There we go, she unleashes hell above all our heads. “As far as I know, Chase punched Tom because he has a problem with him being gay and Nate tried to intervene and help Tom.” “You did what.” Nates father all of sudden said with this acidic voice. “Chase, why. Are you still angry that you father left me for his boyfriend. It is not his fault.” Chases mother said, but Chase was just ignoring her.
That gave me a little insight to Chase’s story. Now I know why he hates gays so much. If he wouldn’t have harassed me all this time, I would actually feel sympathy for him. “He has every right to be angry. A grown-up man who leaves his wife and son for another man. Disgusting.” I could feel Nate tensing beside me while his father was talking. Now my mother is the best. She crossed her arms and legs, locked away from Mr Walton and then said “You are an asshole. You do realize my son is gay and in this room. If you do not shut your mouth and discuss this matter, why we are here, in a civil way than you have no right to be here.” My mother, a calm and very lovely person, but like me once someone makes us angry, we unleash a storm onto them.
“If my son was gay I would make sure he forgets all this stupidity and send him to a correctional facility where they teach him proper behaviour. Instead of helping this abomination you should have helped Chase to beat him up.” My mom was so ready to jump that man’s throat I could feel here behind me. While my mom and Chase’s mom where standing behind us, Nates father was now in front of him looking his son in his eyes.
Only when my mom was getting ready to scream this motherfucker down, Nate suddenly said “I’m gay. That is why I helped Tom.” While every one of us was speechless, my mom to her usual position when she thought she won a fight. She smiled and rested a hand on my right shoulder. “What?” Mr Walton said angry and shocked at the same time. Nate got up and took a step closer to his father “You heard me the first time, but just in case. I am gay and Tom is my boyfriend.” He took my hand and turned his head to look me in his eyes. I would have melted on the spot I this father wasn’t readying himself for a punch. I quickly got up and stopped Mr Walton just before he hit his son. He looked me in the eyes fo a second and then quickly pulled away. “Don’t touch him.” I threatened and the principle said “Mr Walton I think you should better leave before I call the police.” My mom was already by my side ready to hurt anyone who would just touch me. Mr Walton saw that he was alone while the rest of us, well except Chase, were standing together, so he just left without another word. “I think it is best we just drop the matter and let everyone decide for themselves how to deal with all the revelations we just heard and saw.” The principle said and let us go. There you see now that she talked to us, she just doesn’t care anymore. My school, what should I say.
