Partner Projects: Foundation Training Shows How Any Business Can Go Direct-To-Fan
The music business has learned some hard lessons over the last decade. So much so that other industries are now looking to how it has responded as inspiration for their own forward-thinking digital strategies.
Take the direct-to-fan approach that artists have begun to adopt. What works for artists works for any other customer-focused entity interested in (a) building an audience online, (b) selling bundled physical and digital products, and (c) doing so in a relational and direct-to-fan fashion.
We’ve seen it done with film and books, and now an interesting hybrid of both. Fitness program Foundation Training wanted to sell their exercise books and DVDs bundled with digital downloads directly from their website. But they also wanted to build their up their mailing list and send special offers and downloads to their core audience at the same time; and they needed a third party to ship their orders. All are hallmarks of a typical direct-to-fan album release strategy, just applied to a different product.
The company used Topspin’s end-to-end platform to run Foundation Training’s Web store, and worked with Topspin partners Oniracom for marketing and Alliance for shipping and fulfillment.
After enjoying feature placement on livestrong.com, the product took off. Online sales have increased dramatically and more people are becoming Foundation Training certified than ever before.
This is a perfect illustration of how any business can benefit from running a direct-to-fan store on their own site. Livestrong.com provided the awareness, interested customers linked through to the company’s site, and Foundation Training could then close the sale without any further navigation or segmentation in the process, all while capturing the contact information of each newly engaged customer.
With the right tools, any artist or business can grow their customer base naturally and efficiently while reaching out to fans in powerful and meaningful ways.
