The last in this series of fast portraits. This is Harlan - my friend and roommate of 3+ years, a damn fine fellow and maker extraordinaire. He is the founder of OOAK Forge (One Of A Kind Forge) where he makes knives, slingshots, “pizza slayers”, and other odds and ends and works of art of incredible craftsmanship. Another quick 5 minute portrait - this one of my friend Savannah who claimed she doesn’t love having her portrait taken because if she’s not fully smiling, she has a terrible case of RBF. (You can google it if you want) I told her I didn’t think that was true and I bet we could get a really nice photo in just under a few minutes. After some back and forth banter, a few breaths and a moment to collect ourselves, (and a hairstyle adjustment from her BF) we got some really great shots. This was just one of them. I love working with people and helping to break their long held negative perceptions of who they are and how they show up in front of a camera lens. (Thanks Savannah for trusting me in the process.) I had my friend Will, of @bensonblades stop in for an impromptu portrait last week. If I’m being honest, it was really hard to take a bad photo of him. I mean, look at those cheek bones! And though you can’t really see it in these black and white photos, his blue eyes were popping in this one light set up. ( Check out some of Will’s knife-craft on his page @bensonblades ) I’m starting to remember how much fun it is to create something from nothing, and see what can be captured in only 5 minutes.
