Plots with lots of details, twists, and turns can be fun, but I love something simple and really, really clever. For that reason, author-illustrator Kate Read's "One Fox: A Counting Book Thriller" (2019) may be my new favourite counting book for young kids. With lushly colourful painted illustrations and just a handful of well-chosen words (and numbers), Read takes her audience on a rollercoaster adventure, as a fox tries to sneak into the local henhouse and gets the surprise of his life! I received a copy of this book from the publisher for consideration for our book club's #FindMeStories_2019 Best Picture Books list, and as I said, it was definitely one of my favourites.
