Today’s quick WIP: Purl Soho’s Cook’s Pot Holder! It’s a sort of matchy-match item to go with my Gram’s Tunisian coaster, for her birthday (which is a week after mine). My idea for it, as well, is more of a hot pad, so the two can be used together during a meal. I really hope she likes them both! #WIP #gifts #crochetersofinstagram #crochet #crochetpotholder #giftforGram #knicromaniac #onedayproject #purlsoho
My dinky little Tunisian crocheted coaster, with a simple border. It's for my Gram's birthday next month. 🙂 #crochetersofinstagram #crochet #tunisiancrochet #crochetcoaster #giftforGram #imadethis #wonky #perfectlyimperfect #knicromaniac #swipeit #onedayproject #done
We randomly had a one day project which I made two posters for following the prompt “in the future people will think it strange that we only ever used-” I did accidentally change “think” to “find” but it still makes sense. I made a list of all the ideas I had and discussed with my siblings too to see if they had any spectacular ideas.
Max Dovey Artificial Intelligence Workshop
We did a quick prototype brief to test different AI technologies. Max is based at an artists studio called Rebeccas Flat, which unsurprisingly is a flat (with old fashioned decor) named after the previous long term tenant, an elderly women called Rebecca. Me and Karthika decided to try and resurrect Rebecca by creating a London average Rebecca.
We used Python to scrape twitter of all London posts including the name Rebecca. We cleaned the data, removing all the weird character. We then used IBM Watson Personality Insights to create a character description, and then fed this text in to GPT2 (a technology that writes copy!) twice to create a monologue.
Obviously the project was ridiculous, but it was an interest test of some bleeding edge AI technologies.
Here’s a little sample of the uncanny script:
Pocketwork: we need to constantly be working to develop the support structures in our lives to deliver those "human beings" who project her/his essential character into actions. By doing this we are making an allowance for our own weaknesses rather than tackling them on behalf of our fellows or not so much trying to reinforce them.

VR Immersive workshop with Avril Furness
Avril set us a mini-brief to come up with a problem, solution, and prototype around the theme of Artificial Intelligence. In a small group we decided to look at overpopulation and how we could reduce our impact on the planet by somehow virtually shrinking ourselves and our environment. To prototype the idea, I sketched a scaled environment using Google Tilt Brush. Having been fairly cynical, I was actually really impressed with the technology. Since the session I’ve seen some beautiful examples of Tilt Brush work from the National Theatre’s Immersive Studio.
Projection Mapping with Bruno Mathez
We were asked by Bruno to create a quick projection mapped prototype around the theme of the amplification of marginalised voices. We decided to explore the increased challenges that marginalised groups of people can face, in living life feeling like an unheard outsider. A seemingly simple task potentially becomes a hurdle. We used the simple metaphor of scale. Our protagonist is simply trying to be heard as they climb a mountainous set of steps. The video above shows our process and outcome.
Verbatim Theatre with Shabina Aslam
Bussing Out is an oral history project by Shabina Aslam exploring the dispersal of ethnic minority children within Bradford Primary schools 1965-1980. Using transcripts of interviews conducted by Shabina with Bradford residents discussing their experiences of being “bussed out”, my group and I developed a verbatim script and directed three actors to perform it.
