In the first two weeks of 2016, three people across Australia were the victims of these types of attacks. One of them, 18-year-old Cole Miller, later died in hospital in Brisbane.
The victim in Canberra had surgery to his jaw and is recovering at home. The third, a 36-year-old woman from the outback Queensland town of Mount Isa, also suffered serious injuries.
