although she’s well versed in the library where she works, alice’s absolute favourite place to be is in the children’s section. every shift she has at least an hour where she sits on the floor with the little ones and reads to them - she always has a few books she’s picked out in advance, but she also takes requests.
every so often, she also comes in with a new puppet or stuffed animal she’s made to include in the little puppets corner. she’s their most attentive audience member when the kids decide to put on a show.

“Flute, huh?” Matthew raises a brow, smiling from where he’s stretched back on the settee. Of course, he’s known Gilbert for a long time (immortality is like that. Despite any past conflicts everyone always congregates back to the few beings alive who understand them), but he’d never really known the depth of his passion for it. Matthew knew that Gilbert played the flute, was fond of the instrument, but hearing the man speak about it was something else entirely.
It’s one of the few times Matt gets to host a World Event. Somehow, he usually tends to get passed over - but that’s another issue. He and Gilbert are sitting in the parlour of his house in Gatineau, and it’s getting late into the night. The windows are open, the oppressive heat of the summer is finally beginning to fade. It’s nice.
With a wave of his hand in a vague “gimme moment” gesture, Matthew gets up and walks over to the far corner of the room. He pops open a drawer in an old bureau, and carefully takes out a wooden box. When he turns around, he holds out two instruments. One, a familiar, two piece baroque flute. The other looks similar, but smaller, and it made in one smooth piece. “I wouldn’t say I’m all that good with the flute, but I was a decent fife player when I was young.”
