Dear all. I've done something crazy, scary and exciting. I've bought a studio in an old building in central Copenhagen! After two decades of dealing with the whims of numerous landlords. Getting pushed around the increasingly rare, ungentrified parts of Copenhagen, i am now my own landlord in a flood prone basement. It feels simultaneously liberating to have all the privileges that go with owning something and scary to commit to something permanent and on my own. For the past many years i have benefitted greatly, both professionally and personally, from Sharing studio space, and daily routines, with many great and inspiring colleagues, and i am nervous about what it will be like to lead a more solitary work life. But the opportunity to obtain a greater measure of autonomy, permanence and a platform of my own is just too good to pass up. In due time, if i continue to have the resources and economy, i plan to use part of my newfound space for low budget public activities (under the monkier of Captive Portal). Projects that fall outside of the scope and interests of the channels of distribution that are available in the art world proper. I hope to be able to share my resources and space. Especially with activities and people outside of the mainstream art world that share a playfully critical aproach to art making, its institutions, its discourses, its context, its modes of display, its technologies and so on. Some time in june i plan to have small open day to celebrate, what feels like a new chapter of my professional life, please stay tuned, and i will let you know when. I have hesitated somewhat in sharing this news with you, as it feels almost too good to be true and perhaps a little over-privileged on my part. But as you can probably tell, right now I am dreaming big and hopeful dreams, many of which will probably not come to fruition.
