This orc cleric was fantastic! A challenging paint with tons of cool details to fill in. Definitely recommended.
On December 13th, we hosted a library pop-up in our Museum at the Science History Institute. With the holiday season in full gear, we opted for a food and drink theme for our pop-up. We explored cookbooks, household science, food chemistry, and some unique recipes from our historical collections. Some of the rare books on display included The American Housewife: Cook Book (1877), Delights for ladies to adorne their persons, tables, closets, and distillatories, (1640), and Culinary Chemistry (1821).Â
Our display of modern print materials included: The Rumford Cook Book (1910), Rumford Southern Recipes (1930s), Rumford Complete Cook Book (1945), Das Bäckerbuch (1900), The Baker's Book (1901), and The Chemistry of Cooking and Cleaning (1882).
Attendees also enjoyed making crafts - (very cute) corner bookmarks made to look like holiday gifts.
All in all, it was a splendid day full of good cheer! Â
Weâll be back with more pop-ups in the New Year!
Amiri & Friends #39 - Showoffs
Artist: @sheastandefer
In a party full of support characters, Damiel, with his ability to Dimensional Step into any fight and through any potion as a bomb to help out, has probably been the most aggressively helpful member of the party. As we have advanced to Adventure 6, though, we have all developed more powerful abilities to assist each other (especially Oloch!), and apparently Damiel does not appreciate being upstaged. Only an incel would be so jealous of being offered an overwhelming amount of helpful support. :â)
Amiri & Friends #32 - Good Weed
Artist: @sheastandefer
Since we mixed in the Ultimate Wilderness Add-On deck into the box, Damiel has been discovering the amazing powers of all the alchemical plants available. Meanwhile, Lini and Oloch have âother plansâ for the âgood weedâ Damiel has discovered.

Amiri & Friends #33 - When Life Gives You Cannons...
Artist: @sheastandeferâ
...make Cannonade! Among the new features in the Skull & Shackles adventure path are ship combat and ship-related hazards. Failure at these tasks results in Structural damage to our ship, which can be negated by the party collectively discarding cards equal to the damage or your ship is wrecked (spoiler alert: bad things happen when your ship is wrecked). This damage canât be negated or reduced the way armor and other cards can reduce other damage, which makes the rare card that DOES reduce structural damage VERY useful.
Oloch picked up a loot we earned a while back called the Buccaneerâs Breastplate, and it reduces Structural damage by 1. Since then, heâs been saving our ship left and right, which mechanically is awesome, but thematically is somewhat ponderous. Is he diving in front of the ship every time we get shot by a cannon? Do we tie him to a buoy so we can reel him back in after? In any case, it make for a hilarious mental (and now actual) image.Â
Amiri & Friends #28 - Alchemical Fortitude
Artist: @sheastandefer
After games and games of nothing but Potions of Fortitude from the Alchemist Lab random draw, this week Damiel actually needed one when he pulled the Lab, and instead ended up with a potion of LuCUBRation. The irony was not lost on any of us.
A beautiful book tree, a cozy book fireplace, and some cuddly creatures make for a very merry scene at the Othmer Library this holiday season.Â
For those who are interested about the little critters gathered together on our mantelpiece, their names are: Don & Mid Mouse (in the sled), Ottilie and the dastardly Mr. Squeaky, and Steve the Monster Book.Â
As always, our dear Oloch was present. After dressing up as Father Christmas and an elf in previous years, Oloch decided he wanted to be an angel for this yearâs festivities. So precious.
Seasonâs greetings from all of us at the Othmer Library!
