Wait a tick. Gold dust poisoning can happen? Is Lady Olivia in danger of the same happening to her?! I understand shes physically ill due to the whistle going missing ontop of it being tainted by black smoke, as well as expecting baby Polly anytime now, but.. Is she in danger of gold dust poisoning too..?
PEONY: Well uh, that’s a question for Dr Hendrick. He’s the expert. Next to Great Northern he’s the one who knows the most. He used to work as Doncaster as a medic engine after all!
DR HENDRICK: Well I don’t claim to know everything! I’m sure the other railways medics have a lot more knowledge from me. As for that incident with the Southern Warden, the man was reckless and desperate to save that engine. He did so despite no knowledge on the effects of humans. It was unfortunate but he was admirable for his determination.
The Gresley’s, it’s a little difficult to say as Sir Gresley himself worked with Gold Dust closely. I do believe the man grew a tolerance to the stuff over time unlike the Southern Warden who tried to absorb a soul all at once. Olivia may have gained Sir Gresley’s tolerance to the Gold Dust through her bloodline. But we do know that if Olivia was going to suffer from Gold Dust poisoning, she would have succumbed to it by now so we’re certain that she’s not in any danger from it.
QUICKSILVER: Basically, no, Olivia is not in danger from Gold Dust poisoning.
When she was young, she was a very sick girl, so we think that her childhood illness came back when the Whistle was stolen. The trouble is, we don’t exactly know what stopped it before she had the whistle from Scotsman. North was very guarded about that for some reason. Did he use Gold Dust to heal her? We just don’t know.
