But one thing that we have always been able to rely on is the creation of incredible fan fiction. From January 1 - 7, we invite you to join us in sharing some of the most memorable pieces published during the year. Perhaps you would like to reblog the first chapter of a fic, share the link to an outside source such as AO3, post a long and detailed review or perhaps even send a direct message to the author - how you celebrate is really up to you!

Well, not much to say here, because whichever story I’ll choose, the writer will be the one and only @abbydebeaupreposts.

For this category, I will go with Queen's Gambit and that parking lot scene. 

But (!!) make sure you also check This is Us (which is an amaaaazing story that leaves you more than hot at Chapter 16 - and then again later) and her MacDaddy AU (the title speaks for itself)!!

January 1st - Memorable Canon Fic

I may be taking liberties here with “canon fic” but this story is canon in my opinion, so fight me.

In this fic @futurelounging explores the backstory of Henry and Julia Beauchamp, Claire’s parents. She creates a world and story that is completely unique to Outlander fanfiction and will have you hooked from the first chapter.

Any and all of them! But in particular I’m still holding out hope that an update for one if these might pop up someday ❤️

✧Laverick✧ Grounded and thoughtful slow burn that takes place in the modern Highlands while intertwining some of the area’s local politics. 

✧The Pitch✧ Jamie and Claire’s characters transplanted into a modern setting as an athlete and doctor so well and a satisfying buildup of attraction between them @superfluffycool

True North @ianmuyrray

This fic is honestly a revelation on Jenny Fraser Murray. She's more then just a mouth loudly speaking without breathing and preaching. In True North Jenny feels REAL. Written with such a loving hand who knows her damn heroine and what she's capable of being. Letting Jenny breath and given a vulnerability, beauty that's wonderful to read.

January 3rd - Memorable Modern Day AU Fic

“Tall, Strong, and Extra Scot” by @thatsoccercoach

Read it on Tumblr or AO3.

I love TSES for how unique it is as a modern AU. Claire is a school counselor, Jamie owns a coffee shop, and romance ensues. Yet, this story is about so much more. Claire has an adopted son, Fergus, and Jamie is raising his younger brother, Willie, and it focuses on the family dynamics that the two of them must navigate because of this. It’s real, loving, and family oriented, exactly how I see canon Jamie and Claire.

January 4th - Fic you read more than once.

“Among Others” by @owlish-peacock36

Read it on AO3.

I love Bree. I love William. I love the thought of Bree and William together in Bees. So this quick little one shot is a favorite of mine.

@owlish-peacock36 is able to perfectly capture the awkwardness that is sure to come from Willie and Bree meeting again in book nine. But she also conveys the want that we know is there to be a family and to have a place where you are welcome no matter what.

Memorable Canon-Divergent Fic

I have two fics for this category. 

Where you lead (Chapter 1, AO3), by @mo-nighean-rouge.

Claire has gone through the stones before the battle of Culloden, leaving not only Jamie but Faith, too, behind. Now, Jamie and Faith find themselves in 1949 - Claire’s time. 

This wonderful story is full of love and warmed my heart every time a new chapter was posted. Jamie and Claire have another chance, two wonderful girls and all their life in front of them. Faith is amazing and her reunion with Claire is as beautiful as it could ever be. 

Taghadh (Chapter 1, AO3), by @thefraserwitch. 

If you’re up for some angst, this is your canon-divergent story! Claire goes back through the stones right after the witch trial and, by accident, takes Jamie with her. Now that she’s back in her own time, she has to make a choice. Jamie or Frank? They are both there, both alive, both hers - if she wants them. 

I won’t say anything more, because I don’t want to spoil anything. I’ll just say that the choice isn’t easy for Claire, and I loved this.
