The Burning Of Zozobra took place this evening in a ceremony devoid of an in person audience but broadcast on the local ABC affiliate live. This video is from last year. Zozobra or Old Man Gloom is a tradition that goes back to 1920s. It was created by a local artist by the name of Will Schuster who wanted to create a tradition that was secular and would be based on a fable created to encourage people to get rid of all their anxieties and burn them up with Zozobra once a year. Since I have lived in Santa Fe, Zozobra has marked the end of Summer and a time for the community to get rid of their gloom by burning up this huge puppet once a year. People write things they want to forget or get rid of on paper to stuff in Zozobra and it has also included divorce papers, bills, pink slips and even a wedding dress or two. So while this clip plays just will all your hassles and troubles onto Zozobra and watch them burn up! #Zozobra #BurningOfZozobra #OldManGloom #BurnUpYourTroubles #BurnUpYourGloom #BurnUpYourAnxiety #SantaFeTradition #SantaFeNewMexico #TheCityDifferent https://www.instagram.com/p/CEvdSnfhXxG/?igshid=i44oauzdxkxr
