COMMUNICATION SHUTDOWN!!! Written by @olabisidaredavid I was in Uni then, Bobo and I had a little misunderstanding and we couldn't reach a resolve so everybody locked up. Day 1 no calls, no text messages, no 2go chat... Day 3 same thing. Going to almost day 7 I think. Was I tempted to call him? Yes, numerous times. But why should I call him? If I call him, he will think I was guilty and next time he won't stretch forth hands of peace when there's a misunderstanding, I'll be the only peacemaker in the relationship. Abeg, Lock up continua!!! After like 2 more days, my phone rang. Guess who? Bobo!!! I was so happy but as expected I still wanted to form vexation. I got a shocker!!! He had appendicitis and had to be operated upon immediately, so while I was forming vexed, the love of my life was battling for his life. I felt ashamed. What was the essence of the shutdown in communication? What fruit did it yield? I wasn't there for him when he needed me. Although he called to apologize, I was too ashamed to prove any point. Everything now adds up, no wonder he didn't call me, I thought he was also enjoying the game, it never crossed my mind that something could have gone wrong. Silent treatment in relationship and marriage bears no good fruit. It suddenly turns into a game. No one checks on the other, no one cares to know what's going on in the other person's life. This goes on until a party is tired after some days, weeks or even month. Does it make the other party see your point? Most times it doesn't Communication shutdown doesn't profer solution to conflict, it rather magnifies it. It makes you give a deeper thought to the issue and you start expanding the matter beyond necessary. Silence gives room for bitterness and pride. There are better approaches to conflict resolution which we would discuss soon. It is expedient that we resolve conflicts amicably without shutting down communication, your love for each other if genuine must remain evident even while you disagree. Let love lead!!!
