LOS ANGELESāāThe first episode is going to be for the fans,ā Sam Heughan said about Season 5 of his hit time-travel drama series, āOutlander
I didnāt think it was possible to top Caitās interview with Margaret Gardiner but after reading this Inquirer interview with Sam my heart is very full. š„° He is such a bloody lovely guy. Comes across so kind, humble, thoughtful, insightful. He really is such a class act. It makes me really happy to see him doing so well. As he says, heās always put his career first, and his years of hard work are finally paying off with all the projects being released this year. Well done Sam! šš¼
My my, this fandom does like to be outraged doesnāt it.

What is the Starz mission about going after premium women? Has Netflix been a boon for Outlander? And will weā¦
Things Iām taking away from this article which I actually really enjoyed reading:
Starz is basically putting all of their eggs in an Outlander shaped basket. The show is a huge success and they are heavily promoting it as such. He calls Season 5 āone of the strongest, best seasons yetā. Jeffrey talks about the fact that yes, itās primarily women who start watching the show, or itās maybe their idea initially, but they will bring their boyf/husband/partner on board and they will stick around for the multifaceted show content, āromance, love, drama, story, loss, separation, or reunionsā. He says Outlander is Starzās bellwether. Itās literally their blue print for replicating other successful shows aimed at a predominately female audience.
Hirsch then praises Caitriona for her performance this season which deals with some difficult material (Book readers will have their ideas about this) and then says that he loves that the fan base is so passionate, when letās face it, itās been nothing but vicious towards him since last years unfortunate āEye-Candyā comment. Finally he says Sam is a āphenomenal actorā who has been constantly developing that character since Season 1. He actually emphasises how much they appreciate his work on the show by saying āI want him to know that we value him for his ability to bring that character to the screen and to the fan baseā. Like am I missing something? Have yaāll been reading a different article? I think itās pretty clear at this point that, for some Sam fans, the man canāt say anything right. Which is a shame, because everything he is saying bodes extremely well for the future of the show.
What was actually said by Sam this weekend at his meet and greet. šš»
Good old Deb has gotten together with 4 other people who attended this meeting with Sam (That we now know Emma did not attend) and they have compiled the following summary. Itās actually a great read on its own but my favourite part it where she completely negates every single claim Emma made.

Cait is on a roll! So happy for her. ššš¼ Also donāt see how things could get any worse for shippers at this point. š¤·š¼āāļøš¤¦š¼āāļø

WaterAid today announces that actor Tobias Menzies (The Crown, Outlander, and Game of Thrones) has become an ambassador for the internationa
As if I didnāt love this guy enough. What a sweetheart. š„°
Hello! Thank you for being able to separate reality and fiction so well :P Many can't and start thinking they're owed something and nonsensically go after the actors. At the end of the day Outlander is a job, it's not their lives. They all work hard, give a lot to it, by all accounts are lovely people, and I think we should respectfully leave our expectations as fans at that.
Well said, Anon. Just because weāre fans doesnāt mean weāre entitled to anything. I second this. š§”
People are getting really defensive about Cait at the moment which I totally understand. People are making really rude comments about her and that is not ok. But there is a lot of hypocrisy going around considering that some of those same people basically all the time make rude comments about Sophie&Richard and Roger&Bree. When their fave is being trashed that is not ok but when they do it to other people and character then that's ok!? Like I said it's so hypocritical.
I received this ask several weeks ago, so I donāt know what rude comments were being directed at or made about Cait at the time, but Iām assuming itās either about her personal life or appearance.
Itās all about perspective and a fanās personal beliefs about what is and is not okay fandom behavior. You and I see this behavior as hypocritical (and sometimes appalling) because we believe that itās not okay to trash an actorās personal life or appearance. Period.
But, an Outlander fan who sees Cait as the only āgoodā or ādecentā person involved with the show, will think itās perfectly alright to defend her but then turn around and condone the behavior of fans who are trashing or bullying Richard, Sam, or Sophie. And thatās what it isābullyingāat least if itās done on an actorās social media accounts.Ā Ā Ā Ā
Actors are real people with feelings. It is my personal belief that they should be treated with the same decency and respect that you would to any stranger. I also believe that an actorās personal life is none of my business and I am not in any position to speculate on their relationships or criticize their appearance. I donāt need any of that negativity in my fandom life so I unfollow or block blogs that do this.Ā (I urge you to do the same, Anon.Ā Thereās no point in getting worked up over a bunch of negative, mean, or entitled āfans.ā)Ā
As for the trashing of certain characters...everyone has their favorites. Itās obvious who my favorites are.Ā Not that having a favorite excuses the trashing of other characters.Ā I think itās perfectly alright to criticize a characterās actions or behaviors, or the writing or costuming of said characters.Ā What I donāt think is okay is sending anonymous hate in peopleās inboxes, or dropping hate in the replies of a gifset, or reblogging a positive post just to add negativity.
Thank you, Anon, for sending this ask.Ā But, to be honest, I wasnāt sure if I even wanted to answer this. Ā Iām growing quite tired of talking about and analyzing the behavior of this fandom. Ā It seems that no matter what I say or how carefully I try to word things, someone will take offense.Ā Or theyāll interpret my defense of Roger/Richard and Bree/Sophie as hatred of Sam/Jamie and Cait/Claire.Ā Itās not a competition.Ā Iām not trying to create even more divisiveness in this fandom by speaking up for the characters or actors who I feel have been unfairly vilified.Ā I wish we could all coexist peacefully.Ā But, I cannot for the life of me understand the many different circles within this fandom, so Iām no longer up for commenting on or analyzing fandom behavior.Ā Ā Ā Ā
I am, as always, up for spirited discussion of the books or show, or anything, really!Ā My inbox here, and at @themackenzies is always open.
