O Jackie is a complete work of fiction—right down to the narrator, who claims to be investigating the veracity of the footage. The film is about the archive, documentary and its interpretations. Exploiting nostalgic associations with the medium of Super 8 film, it was hand-processed to look old and “archival,” coupled with appropriated sound. This layering of fake histories questions what is true or false, and whether the events ever took place. The narrative that encircles this footage is a total lie, yet questionably believable--waivering between the two.
