There was a cry of pain, and the sound of a sword dropping to the ground, followed by the heavy clang of armour. Kenma could tell who that was anywhere.

He sprinted forward, covering himself in a protective shield, speeding through the fight. Arrows bounced off of the shield, until he opened it up to fit the soldier in. An arrow flew past his ear, hitting the other side of the shield and bouncing to the ground. Kenma leant down beside the person, and immediately searched for a wound.

"My shoulder," the injured man said, clutching it for dear life. There was already blood staining his hand, and Kenma immediately flicked it away.

“I can’t heal you if you don’t let me at it,” he says quietly, and then scolds, “You could’ve kept fighting, idiot. You should’ve switched to your one-handed sword, but you let a single wound knock you down.”

Kuroo grinned wickedly, “But here you are, tending to my wound like you always do.”

“I could leave you here to die, you know,” Kenma vocalised his thoughts, before hitting Kuroo’s arm, just above his wrist, “Move your hand before you actually do die.”

“You care about me too much, Kenma.” Kuroo says softly, slowly lifting his hand. Kenma hesitates for a moment, seeing the wound, but puts his hand to it slowly. Kuroo grinned at him like a cat, “See why it knocked me down, now?”

“You could’ve dodged this. Getting hit like this isn’t like you,” Kenma didn’t look at his companion and beloved friend as the area that had been cut open by the blade lit up, and began sewing itself back together.

“Bastard had a hidden knife, I only knew he had one when it was in me,” Kuroo explained, hissing at the pain. He had never liked the healing process. It was like someone was taking a needle and knitting his muscles together, and then his skin. Finally, when he thought the worst of it was over, blood rushed through the damaged area, and he can feel it go from pain, to numbness, to pain all the way through his body. It worked, but damn it hurt.

“It sure went deep.”

“Yep,” the blood rush began in his arm, and before Kuroo knew it, he was as good as new. He stretched it out quickly, before grabbing his sword. Kenma watched silently, his eyes observing every movement, as though he was going to instantaneously combust.

“You need to be careful, Kuroo. Any deeper and I might not be able to do anything, especially if I need to have a shield running as well.” Kuroo grinned at him, and nodded, saluting him. Kuroo stood to his full height, and Kenma followed suit, still eyeing over Kuroo. “The guy taking cover behind the shrubbery has a dagger ready for you.”

Kuroo’s eyes darted over there, and he nodded, holding his sword ready, “Got it. You going to be alright?”

“Mhm…” Kenma’s eyes dart back to his position, and he smiles at Kuroo, “Finish this safely.”

“And to you, Kenma, now go.”

“Got it, ready?”

“Yep, and…” Kuroo signalled, and took a step forward, “Now!”

Kenma relinquished the shield for a split second, allowing the two of them to start running. Just as Kenma had predicted, there was a dagger thrown at Kuroo, which was blocked with ease. There were some arrows fired at Kenma’s back, but his shield blocked them off. Kenma didn’t look back, and there were no more cries from the taller man.

The battle finished shortly after, the remainder of the outnumbered troops retreating. Kenma relinquished his shield, feeling energy pour back into him. Akaashi had done the same beside him, and the two nodded at each other, heading towards their respective front liners.

“You good?” Kenma asked, and Kuroo nodded.

“Yeah, you?”

“Mhm…”

Kuroo grinned, and wrapped an arm around Kenma, “My shoulder still hurts, you know. Maybe you should kiss it better.”
