Branches of the Pact
Authors note: This is all hypothetical and what I envision a massive military organization would be like. Disclaimer out of the way...))
It should go without saying that the Pact is a massive organization, and as a result, there are numerous branches within this illustrious group. While there are some that can be considered well known, such as the Ground Forces, there are a few that may not be as well understood to others. This is a comprehensive guide to the many groups within. Bear in mind, this is not a complete dive, but rather, a good overview on what constitutes the main fighting force of Tyria.
Infantry/Ground Forces
Perhaps the largest, and most visible of the branches, the infantry branch of the Pact can be seen as those that take the fight directly to whatever threats may pop up. Whether it be through Dragon minion, individual bent on world domination, or anything in between, those that serve on the front lines are the unsung heroes holding everything together.
More often than not, one will envision Vigil Crusaders and Warmasters charging into whatever stands between them and their objectives. That being said, it isn’t too out of the ordinary to also see Priory Explorers keeping tabs on anything that can be studied, or Whispers Agents plotting out paths of least resistance for the fight to be won.Â
Armored Corps
When one hears of the Armored Corps, the first thing that comes to mind are the armored cars and tanks from the fine minds of the Iron Legion. But one should also not forget the various golems that can be brought to bear by the Asura. Both tanks and golems have their place in the field, but one should always keep in mind that depending on logistics, battlefield terrain, etc. can easily dictate what, if any, assets from here can be deployed. Still, if these assets can be properly deployed, it will easily ruin the enemy’s day.
Ordinance Corps
Anything explosive falls under the jurisdiction of the Ordinance Corps. Here, one can find demolitions experts crafting the latest and greatest explosive to expertly defeat any enemy that comes around. But explosives creation is not just their foray, as they are also responsible for explosives disposal. These experts have one of the most demanding jobs out there, but it is essential for disarming any stray mines or bombs left behind by foe, or friend.
Air Force
The Pact Air Force is well known for the majestic airships and mighty helicopters that fill its ranks. The various aerodromes house these majestic beasts that can not only transport forces all across Tyria, but also provide off-site fire support. An interesting side note, because of the supposed thrill and adventure, it is not uncommon to see a few human nobles sign on for pilot roles here.
Logistics Corps
Beans, bullets, and everything in between, the logistic corps is responsible for getting supplies from bases to the various soldiers on the line. Everything from the various runners, to the durable dolyaks, they ensure that no member goes hungry. They may not be noticed up front, but no one will deny the role they play in the overall fight.
Special Forces
Their jobs may never be fully known, but the special forces take on the high risk assignments in the area. Generally under the work of the Order of Whispers, this branch also has those within the Vigil that have to lead the dangerous front line operations, or the Priory with complicated research assignments. If the world never hears of what they do, then they have done their job with diligence.
Research Department
From coming up with new weapons and armor, to uncovering ancient mysteries, the research department never has a dull moment. While the heavy work falls under the Priory, it probably comes to no surprise that Vigil and Whispers members may also be in here, mostly under escort duties.Â
Naval Department
Many may question the need for a naval department, especially with the likes of airships about. But given the fuel needs of airships, and especially how many long distance trips are over water, the various sailing ships and submarines of the naval department help keep lines and communication up, no matter what bodies of water separate someone. This can also hold true if a hot spot can provide a good anchorage for port, but doesn’t have the capabilities to handle air traffic.
