BELOS MADE HUNTER TAKE OFF HIS COSPLAY.
Like, this poor abused, traumatised (neurodivergent?) kid finally finds a little bit of peace away from his abuser. He starts to loosen up, have fun with his friends, and even find things that heās passionate about. Silly, dorky things like Cosmic Frontier, things that The Golden Guard would have turned his nose up at.
Things that start to help him come to terms with his trauma.
And then the *second* his abuser gains any control over him again, itās taken away. The physical manifestation of Belos canāt have anything undignified about him, after all. And Hunter is nothing if not an extension of Belos. So that ridiculous, childish, embarassing costume is the first thing to go.
If it was just so the fight didnāt look silly with Hunter in cosplay, the animators could have just ripped off the eyepatch and the sash and had Hunter do the fight in yellow. But instead, Belos just gave Hunter one more indignity to suffer.
The Basic premise is, After the events of YBOS Belos gets... very... interested in Luz... And decides he would very much like to adopt her

As part of the 'being adopted' deal Belos decides to give Luz a new name to better fit into the boiling isles, and settles on Phoebe.
Assuming 'all girls like princesses' he figured the title of princess would sweeten the deal for Luz. And once proven that it does not he'd rather double down than consider alternatives.
Those cuffs and gorget are essentially a 'Home Arrest' device, Luz currently can't get about ten yards outside of the castle grounds (outside of the crater) without them activating and... 'ahem' disciplining her.
Belos of course can activate it at will. He made them himself using artificial magic. Luz only got a few days in her normal clothes before the gorget started burning through her collar.
Belos has proper Emperor's coven attire ready for Luz for when she finally breaks, but for now he's willing to 'compromise' and allow her to simply wear the trademark colors of the coven, though the outfits provided aren't exactly Luz's style either.
everyone in the castle has been instructed to call Luz 'Phoebe' and it's REALLY starting to grate on her.
Hunter breaks this rule, but only when they're alone.
Speaking of Hunter Belos will often send him over to handle this or that thing with Luz under the assumption that a fellow teenager will put her more at ease.
Luz is starting to wonder whether 'Hunter' really is his name or not.
Luz doesn't develop Stockholm Syndrome or anything, she's constantly trying to escape or send word to the others about where she is and she never once warms up to Belos, even for the briefest moment.
Now Hunter on the other hand, the two of them grow a lot closer. If anyone's developing anything it's Lima syndrome, because Hunter's starting to break more and more rules for whom he'd assumed Belos would be making his replacement.
