In the GTU story, how does Alice manage to break up with Maura? Considering her personality and the physical power she has over him, it could’ve taken a nasty turn. Did he do it over the phone? Was there someone with him to step in if things went wrong?
Oh anon, BLESS you for this question. Tbh the Alice x Maura is a dynamic I think about a lot, but I've not been able to explore super in-depth because I feel like it's better suited for story-based content/more angstier stuff (that I have to be in a specific mood to right)
But to your question, you're completely right. It could have taken a nasty turn, and Alice was very aware of that--but he also didn't want to do it over the phone. The most heartbreaking thing about Alice & Maura is that he did genuinely love her once--whether or not Maura felt the exact same is hard to say, but in respect to that love and the good moments he did have with her, he wanted to do it in person.
This next part is a bit WIP, but he did have another Giant with him to make sure he would be okay. This Giant's is tentatively named Imogen, and I feel like she and Alice used to be close but due to Maura's jealousy/wanting to isolate Alice from others, Maura pressured Alice to break off his friendship with Imogen.
There'd be a moment where Alice reaches out to Imogen to apologize and ask for help. It'd be a very bittersweet and difficult point of reconciliation, but ultimately Imogen would agree and be present for when Alice would break up with Maura.
